CHCDIV002 ASSISTANCE WITH PROJECT TASKS. I have done this to assist you in the very large assignment for this subject. You will need to do approximately the amount of words mentioned but I will help you. It is difficult to find information at times so I have included all that you need in this document. Task one: https://adelaidia.history.sa.gov.au/subjects/kaurna-people https://sahistoryhub.history.sa.gov.au/subjects/kaurna-people https://www.cityofadelaide.com.au/about-adelaide/kaurna-heritage/ Task two: When talking about biases we look at things like stereotypes. Stereotypes are immediately disliking someone because of their race, religion, colour, age, gender, where they come from, etc etc etc. For example, some South Australian people think that Victorians are all big headed and ignorant. Some Victorians think that all South Australians are backwards. These are stereotypes and we think this just because of where they come from, not because we have known or met them. When working with any clients, we need to make our own assessment of people, not listen to others or think immediately that a person is bad, or an alcoholic, or violent just because they are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. You may have some preconceived ideas about ATSI people, put these aside and take each person you care for as the individual they are. Perhaps you have never been around or dealt with a black or native person before. You may be unsure. Take advice of how to respect the culture from others who may have cared for them before. Advice, not prejudice. Some of the critical issues that might affect your relationship and communication is the lack of trust of western medicine, the lack of trust of some non-ATSI persons, a different education level and understanding, different socioeconomic circumstances, different language, lack of eye contact, etc. How can you reflect and ensure cultural awareness? Read care plans, research ATSI culture, ask questions, observe. How can you demonstrate cultural awareness? Be culturally aware, respectful and sensitive. Task 3: The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2005: · To ensure economic, social and cultural development of ATSI people · To promote self management (much like the way we encourage independence in our clients) · Ensure cooperation between ATSI people and government · Encourage participation in decision making · ATSI people to have input into policies and legislation affecting them and their land and sea Some legislations affecting ATSI people: · Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 · Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984 · Native Title Act (1993) · Protection of Moveable Cultural Heritage Act 1986 · Equal Opportunity Act (SA) 1984 · Racial Discrimination Act 1975 All of these Acts seem to be very old but they are amended and updated regularly. Power relationships refer to someone of a higher or more powerful position behaving or acting in a superior or powerful or discriminatory way towards people who could be considered weaker, a minority or inferior. For example a teacher making students do things they should not have to do with the promise of good marks or a pass. Trauma – if you have been mistreated by one, say older white woman, you may mistrust all older white women! Project part 6: NAIDOC WEEK: https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/history RAINBOW SERPENT What is the message of the Rainbow Serpent? According to the aboriginals, the rainbow serpent represented a deity who would bless the earth or curse it. The snake was believed to be responsible for giving life, causing nature to prosper and blessing the fertility of their women.
