My Image: Child in a Cage – Perils of Immigrartion
Introduction
By the virtue of this assignment, I would like t
o work on the picture shown below of an innocent immigrant child put in a cage while her mother struggles with interrogation about her ethnicity and background. This picture was captures from the personal camera of the phone and source of this picture is CNN. This picture was captured on June 2018 at the Mexico and US border (Gianluca Mezzofiore).
In this fast-paced world, millions of children are on constant move, while some are driven from their home because of conflicts other leave with their family in the hope of finding a better life. However, in majority of time especially when the immigration norms aren’t followed it has always resulted in dangerous situations with unwanted detentions and deprivations as well as forced to return back. What people forget is at the core of it, a child is a child irrespective where he leaves, or comes from or perhaps how he got here.
Body: Analysis of the Image
I selected this image in particular since I would like to draw your attention to a photograph that haunted me for many nights thinking where is our world headed? In this image we witness a young Mexican boy not more than 5 or 6 years of age, in a cage, who is awfully scared and longing to see his mother. His eyes are numb and doesn’t know what is going to happen to him. This picture highlights the cruelty of immigration and children are victimised in the process. If one deep dives into the image, one would be able to comprehend various Rhetorical appeals that is associated.
Ethos - The author of the image is the CNN channel. It was captured in a mobile phone in order to highlight the brutality of the immigration which is often hidden or shoved under the carpet.
