But, on the whole, tho’ I never arrived at the perfection I had been so ambitious of obtaining, but fell far short of it, yet I was, by the endeavour, a better and a happier man than I otherwise should have been if I had not attempted it; Don't want any pay. My religion ain't run on such business principles. Don’t stop for lunch: be ahead of your competitor. The Billows Feeding Machine will eliminate the lunch hour, increase your production, and decrease your overhead. A civics lesson from a slaver. Hey neighbor Your debts are paid cuz you don’t pay for labor “We plant seeds in the South. We create.” Yeah, keep ranting We know who’s really doing the planting I had to do in six hours what they do in nine. In order not to waste any time, I wasn't hanging up the phone in between calls. I realized that by not hanging up the phone, I gained another eight minutes a day. I wasn't drinking water so I didn't' waste any time in the bathroom. I need somebody with arms strong enough to rustle a calf and yet gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild. Somebody to call hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry, have to wait lunch until his wife's done feeding visiting ladies and tell the ladies to be sure and come back real soon -- and mean it. The day ain't yet come she swung lower than five hundred pounds. The earning of money within the modern economic order is, so long as it is done legally, the result and the expression of virtue and proficiency in a calling. I am a citizen of industry! We are taxed twice as much by our idleness, three times as much by our pride, and four times as much by our folly, and from these taxes the commissioners cannot ease or deliver us by allowing an abatement. And that servant which knew his lord's will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes…. That’s scripture. It was right then that I started thinking about Thomas Jefferson on the Declaration of Independence and the part about our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And I remember thinking how did he know to put the pursuit part in there? Each block of text refers to one quote. You may put them in any order that you like, and I will grade them in that order. Include the quote, then write your answer, like below. 1. And that servant which knew his lord's will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes…. That’s scripture. This quote is from the video “The Rise of Skywalker” and refers to when Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker meet again on Tatooine. It refers to the battle of morality between the Jedi and the Sith and the desire of the Sith to maintain a program of scientific management over the Jedi. (Note: This is obviously NOT the right answer.) 2. The day ain't yet come she swung lower than five hundred pounds. This quote is from “A Rose for Emily,” by William Faulkner. It shows that Emily has a Protestant Work Ethic when it comes to her desire to excel in carnival games in her hometown during the Great Depression. (Note: Also obviously NOT the right answer.)
