Beowulf is a classic English poem which was written in 975 AD and credential of author is anonymous. The first part of poem begins with a tribute to King Hrothgar, ancestry because in the warrior culture there is strong patriarchal lineage which is extremely essential element to one's identity. The patriarchal history runs deep in the second passage as well referring linear time frame that stretches in forward as well as backward through bloodlines and generations.

“Then on the beach the curved wide boat was loaded with war-gear, the ring-prowed ship filled with horses and treasures. The mast towered high over the hoard of riches given out by Hrothgar. It would take long to recount how I then repaid that enemy of people for each of his evils, while the deeds I performed there, my dear prince, brought honor to your people. Hygelac laid the sword on the lap of Beowulf, and handed over to him seven thousand hides of land, with a hall and a prince’s seat. then Beowulf became ruler of the broad kingdom, the realm of the Geats, which he ruled over well for fifty long winters”
