In addition, the module equips you to identify and critically evaluate processes and mechanisms that underpin innovation and enterprise allowing you to become an effective social entrepreneur and set up your own organisation. This assessment offers an opportunity to develop a professional practice resource that brings together your knowledge and understanding of leadership theories, models of management, and professional practices that are required to work within an organisation. Completion of this assignment will address the following learning outcomes: 1 Explain theories and concepts of management and leadership and their application in public health and community based initiatives 5 Critically evaluate the role of a manager within the field of public health and community work. 6 Appraise the use of professional practice framework tools and how these support individual management styles and development Task: As part of this assessment you will design a professional practice resource that leaders and managers can use to support successful running of an existing social enterprise or a private / public sector organisation within Public Health. You will present the resource (15 mins) which will be followed by question and answers. Guidance notes and considerations What is a professional practice resource? (see overleaf for details)Professional practice resource consists of skills and knowledge enhancement tools. These assist the managers and leaders to know more about particular skills, application in the context of the organisation, and benefits to individuals and teams. These tools are supported with contemporary evidence and frameworks. What are some of the examples of professional practice frameworks that inform such resources? Examples of commonly used frameworks that inform professional development and practice resources areRoyal Society of Public Health: Professional Practice Framework Leadership Competency Framework: oxford Said Business school Chartered Management Institute: Professional standards Therefore, professional practice resources develop skills, behaviours, and competences related to communication, decision making, problem solving, inter-cultural competences, project management, time management, mental health & wellbeing etc. in leaders and mangers. Such resources are versatile, and allow flexibility on what the user will like to adopt/adapt from it to their own practice. As part of the professional practice resource you will present the following – 1. Background of the organisation for which you are developing this resource as this will assist to understand the utility of it. You are encouraged to choose an organisation that may be used as part of CW2. 2. Rationale of the resource describing how it will benefit leadership and management practices (LO1). 3. Explain how / which professional practice framework underpins the resource (LO6) 4. Supporting evidence for your resource, using contemporary literature including theories of leadership and models of management (LO1 and LO5) 5. The above information is to be presented in a professional manner. It may be supported with graphs, data, relevant images from credible sources (LO6) 6.
