Comparing message interface overhead. Consider sending a short message (128 bits) and a long message (32 Kb) using (a) a two-register interface, (b) a register-mapped interface, and (c) a descriptor-based interface. Assume that the short message resides initially in processor registers and the long message resides initially in memory. Compare the processor overhead (both the time required to send the message and the processor’s occupancy) of sending each length of message on each interface.
