Competency

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

  • Differentiate between the functions of big data technologies

  • Explain how the internet of things and artificial intelligence can support and be used in an organizational environment

Scenario

In your first project, your organization acquired another company that had access to a very large amount of consumer data. In your recommendations to your organization, you proposed a solution for cloud storage and explained to your stakeholders the challenges of working with big data. These challenges included ensuring that your stakeholders understood what big data is and why it is not the same as simply a large amount of data.

The newly acquired company has proposed the development and sale of a new product line, a selection of wearable technology devices that would allow for tracking various health metrics, intended to provide a lower-cost alternative to popular brands of wearables. New technologies will be required to properly analyze the massive influx of data that these devices will collect.

Your contribution to the new initiative will be to explain why the new technologies are needed and why the data will not exist as typical relational databases at first. This will require an explanation of the types of data that might be collected and ways that data might be leveraged to suggest new products or services. You will also explain to management how AI will be used to improve the consumer experience and how machine learning can continually improve the company’s products.

Directions

Use the project proposal template linked in the Supporting Materials section to prepare your proposed summary and recommendations for the technologies that will be required to support the new line of wearables. Consider each point from a data perspective. As you complete the template, remember that you will be communicating to a non-technical audience. Address the following rubric criteria for each section of the template:

  • Discuss why big data-specific tools are necessary for big data analytics.

    • Give examples of 2–3 tools that might be used in analyzing big data and why they are necessary.

    • Explain how big data tools work together with common data handling tools.

  • Identify the purpose of non-relational databases for big data and how they coexist with relational databases.

    • Explain how the diversity of IoT data can influence your choices for tools.

  • Describe how the pervasive nature of the internet of things (IoT) can affect businesses and consumers.

    • Describe a scenario in which IoT improves the consumer’s experience.

    • Describe a scenario in which IoT can improve an organization's ability to use information to benefit their customers.

  • Explain how machine learning differs from AI.

    • Explain how machine learning will improve the utility of the consumer devices.

    • Explain how AI expands the capabilities of the consumer devices.

  • Discuss the impacts of AI on society, including cybersecurity considerations.

    • Discuss the security considerations of collecting data for use with AI.

    • Discuss anonymization of data and how and when it might be appropriate.

  • Explain how AI is used in the workplace to affect business strategies, providing examples to support your claims.

    • Explain how AI could be used to facilitate interaction with your consumers.

What to Submit

To complete this project, you must submit the following:

Project Proposal

Use the provided template to submit your summary and proposed recommendations for the new line of wearables. Replace the bracketed text in each section with your responses. Each section should be 1 to 2 paragraphs, for a total length of 3 to 4 pages. All sources should be cited according to APA style.

Big Data Tools
Hive, Spark, and Flink are examples o
f technologies that may be used in the process of analyzing large amounts of data. These three technologies are important when it comes to maintaining massive databases, performing queries, and assisting users in swiftly processing data. Hive employs a declarative language similar to SQL, enables several users to do data searches concurrently, and executes queries very rapidly. The capabilities of warehousing and the management of huge datasets are where Hive shines the brightest. Spark is capable of developing parallel applications, as well as supporting numerous programming languages, including excellent libraries that can manage analytics techniques, and providing language support for different programming languages. Spark is most useful when used for the rapid processing of huge datasets and when one of the supported programming languages is being used. The final tool is called Flink, and it offers configurable winnowing based on time, count, or session to data driven windows in addition to stream processing and windowing. Flink can perform well at a large scale since it can operate on thousands of nodes. Because of its quick processing time, Flink is ideal for usage in situations in which you want both great performance and prompt results.("Top 15 Big Data Tools and Software (Open Source) 2022", 2022)
The process of gathering, cleaning, and analyzing data may be sped up with the help of big data technologies, which can operate in tandem with more traditional data handling techniques. There are many different kinds of data that may be collected from an organization as a result of the ongoing change and improvement that occurs in the field of technology. The data may be kept in a number of different ways, as well as the big data tools could assist firms in rapidly and conveniently accessing the data that they have saved. The programmes are designed to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as it possibly can, regardless of the format of the data that's being dealt with.
Relational vs. Non-relational Databases
This kind of database does not have tables or rows, primary keys or foreign keys as a relational database does. Storage models in non-relational databases may be tailored to meet the specific needs of the data they hold. While relational databases include rows, tables, and primary keys, they operate in the opposite fashion.
A row of data in a relational database can only be identified by its unique identifier, which is a key. When dealing with various kinds of...
