Minor Project 1 Assignment Instructions Complete the Chapter 2 Case Problem: Heavenly Chocolates Website Transactions in the Essentials of Business Analytics (4th ed.) textbook. A Managerial Report should be created summarizing your responses to all six questions at the end of the case problem. The attached HeavenlyChocolates.xlsx Excel data or HeavenlyChocolates.mpj Minitab data should be used to complete the report. The following Excel instructions can be used to create the statistical summaries in support of your responses. Please provide an interpretation for each table and graph. Setup up the Analysis Toolpak in Excel Open Microsoft Excel Click on File > Options > Add-ins Make sure the bottom box says Manage Excel Add-ins and select Go Click Analysis Toolpak (VBA is not needed for this class) and Solver Add-in Click OK To check and make sure this worked properly, look a the ribbon on the top of your Excel where it says File - Home – Insert – etc. and select Data. On the right side of the ribbon it should say Data Analysis and Solver. Question 1 Descriptive Statistics: Excel: Data Analysis > Descriptive Statistics Input Range: Highlight the Input Range for Time, Pages Viewed, and Amount Spent. If using the Heavenly Chocolates spreadsheet, it should be columns D, E, and F. Please see the screenshot below. If you include the column name, select Labels in First Row. If you do not include the column name, uncheck this box. Output Range: This section is up to you. You can include the output in blank cells on your spreadsheet. If so, highlight a section to drop the output in. This is shown on the image below. Otherwise, you can add it to a new worksheet or new workbook. Check summary statistics and confidence means. Once your Descriptive Statistics box appears similar to the above, click OK. The output should look similar to the image below: Develop a Histogram illustrating the Time, Pages Viewed, and Amount Spent variables separately. In Excel, you will need to define your Bin. Bins categorize the data in chunks. For example, you could show bins of 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10, 20, 30, 40. This is up to you. Let’s focus on Time first. Make sure you have captured the min and max numbers within the dataset. Next, highlight the Time data (rows 2 – 51). On your ribbon, select Data > Data Analysis > Histogram Plug in the Input Range for Time and Bin Decide where you want the output Check the boxes for cumulative percentage and chart output Select OK Do this for each of the variables: Time, Pages Viewed, and Amount Spent You should get two items. The first is a table similar to below. Notice the numbers may change depending on how you have the bin setup. The second is the histogram chart as shown below. Again, this could look slightly different depending on how you have your bin setup. Dataset(s) Examined
To learn more about the web site customers, a sample of 50 Heavenly Chocolates transactions was selected from the previous month’s sales. Data showing the day of the week each transaction was made, the type of browser the customer used, the time spent on the web site, the number of web pages viewed, and the amount spent by each of the 50 customers are contained in the file HeavenlyChocolates.
Findings:
Average time spent by a consumer is 12.81 minutes with maximum of 32.90 and minimum of 4.3. Average number of pages viewed by consumers is 4.82 with maximum of 10 pages and minimum of 2 pages. Average amount spent by consumers is 68.13 with maximum of 158.51 and minimum of 17.84.
Also the total amount spent using chrome browser is highest by value of 1656.81. Total amount spent by consumers is the highest on Friday by the value of 945.43. All week days have different proportions spent by using a web browser.
As we can see from the time histogram, 74 percent have spent less than 20 minutes on the web. As we can see from the pages viewed histogram, 80 percent of consumers have viewed 6 or less than 6 pages on the web. As we can see from the amount spent...
