Complete the following activities:

1.Perform CPR

This assessment task requires you to perform CPR. Carefully review the

instructions below so that you understand what you must do during the

activity.

Your assessor will set up the emergency situation and you will

complete all of the following activities as part of a simulated emergency

situation.

The casualties involved in the incident will be one adult and one

infant and you will be required to perform CPR for both. Both adult and

infant are unconscious and not breathing.

There is also another person who is injured. Regarding this person,

your assessor will not advise you of the casualty’s injury and you will have

to work this out through identifying the person’s history, signs and symptoms

and then providing the appropriate first aid treatment.

Part 1: Before CPR/first aid

management

Before performing CPR, you will need to:

·Verbally

describe the emergency situation set up by your assessor – this will show

that you can recognise and assess an emergency situation.

·Check for

danger to yourself, bystanders and casualties and remove hazards (specific

hazards will be set up for you to remove).

·Check for a

response from the adult and infant casualties in order to determine the need

for CPR – verbally advise your assessor when CPR should be started and show

your assessor the correct action if the casualty is unconscious but

breathing.

·Check the

person who is injured by asking them about their history and looking at their

signs and symptoms. Correctly identify what their injury is (verbally

describe this to your assessor).

·Call emergency

services using the correct number and seeking assistance in relation to the

incident (this will be a simulated call). Your assessor will listen to you

and you will need to correctly and concisely describe the incident.

Part 2: Performing CPR/first

aid management

·You will be

required to perform CPR twice, once with the adult casualty (an adult

resuscitation manikin placed on the floor) and once with an infant casualty

(an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface) as outlined below.

·Regarding

performing CPR on theadultcasualty, you are to:

oPosition the casualty in the required

position

oComplete the appropriate checks prior to

performing CPR

oPerform single rescuer CPR uninterrupted for 2

minutes (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) according to ARC

guidelines

oRotate with another student to perform CPR

with minimal interruptions to compressions. Complete at least two rotations

i.e. each person doing the breathing twice and each person doing the

compressions twice.

oApply an AED and following the voice prompts

to deliver at least one shock to the manikin.

oRespond to regurgitation or vomiting of the

casualty. Do this by showing your assessor actions you need to take.

·Regarding

performing CPR on theinfantcasualty, you are to perform at

least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both

compressions and ventilations).

During the CPR you are to display respectful behaviour to the casualties

at all times.

You are also to provide appropriate first aid to the casualty with the

unknown condition, making them as comfortable as possible with the resources

you have.

Remember, you must always ask for consent to proceed where

possible.

You are also to monitor all of your casualties – explain to your

assessor how you do this.

Part 3: Following CPR/first

aid management

Once you have performed CPR, you will also:

·verbally

describe the incident to emergency services (this will be your assessor).

·complete the

required Incident Report Form, maintaining privacy and confidentiality at all

times.
