Context: Project leadership is about inspiring the project team to do their best from the outset. This requires a combination of verbal and written communications and a range of applied leadership skills. One of the foundational documents that helps “kick-off” the project is the Project Charter. This is a document that describes the entire project in a short, succinct and presentable document that can be shared with project staff or other stakeholders to PROJ6000_Assessment 1 Brief_081118.Docx Page 2 of 5 commence the project in earnest. It also helps clarify the project context, the project team roles and the goals of the project. In this assessment you will be given a project case study to use in order to develop a Project Charter. Though all students will receive the same case study, it is expected that each student will think about the project from their own perspective as an up-and-coming project manager. Use your own style based on your critical thinking of what it means for you to lead a project. That will help you formulate your unique Project Charter. Instructions: 1. Read the case study provided by your lecturer. This will form the basis for your Project Charter, because you will assume that you are the project manager for this project. 2. After reading the case study start developing your project charter. This needs to be a 2000-word report (+/- 10%) and must use a minimum of 6 references (academic literature and industry publications. The case study is a 7th reference). 3. The Project Charter must include the following headings and be written as if you were presenting it to the project team that will build this project. You are the project manager. The contents of the Charter are: a. Background to the project b. Reasons for the project c. Project objectives d. Constraints, limitations and risks e. Leadership structure (project manager and his or her senior aides: list the roles and explain what each does in the project. You need to cite 4 roles) f. Project risks and their mitigation g. Background
The focal point of the study is a German pharmaceutical company named Merck. The company is 350 years old and the study will attempt to find ways in which the company can be revived. Two people, Steven and Mark have been appointed to help with the process where the company is facing the challenge of selecting procurement approaches. Some risks can come out of both the traditional and innovative approaches to procurement. The suitability of either approach has also been questioned in the case scenario provided for the study. Certain strategies like a collaboration with contractors and building trustworthy relationships have also been undertaken by the company as per the scenario. Experts to manage the external and internal aspects have been hired. The quality of the architecture, the schedule, the budget all are problems that are to be solved externally. Steven and Mark have come up with the idea of the collaborative approach.
Reasons for the project
The reason for the project is becoming more acquainted with the idea of Project Management Body of Knowledge or PMBOK. There can be several issues that can occur at an organization and that too can be understood using this project. The complex workplace situations and the adverse behaviour of individuals which can lead to multiple issues are also to be understood (Matos & Lopes, 2013). The project has also been formulated for this reason. The scenario presented is an important study in the various issues that problem solvers in organizations have to deal with and how they overcome it. Mark and Steven have been delegated the duty to manage a certain project and the challenges that come in their way is a study in PMBOK. The procurement approaches strategies by an organization will be understood as about relationships between the clients and the contractors (Skogmar, 2015). The scope that the organization has for improving as well as the construction industry of Germany as a whole will also be understood from this study. The place of the construction industry is extremely significant and high in the market of Europe and Germany leads the race.
Project objectives

· To assess the importance of timing and schedules in the formulation of a successful project
· To develop more knowledge about the Project Management Body of Knowledge and its application in business situations (Rosenberger & Tick, 2019).
· To apply ethical codes certified by the PMI in the practices of project management.
· To analyze critically the different organizational situations present and to apply suitable project management approaches to solve the issues
Constraints, Limitations and Risks
Many risks are associated with the industry and surveys have revealed that not much knowledge can be truly gathered about how construction industry functions. Innovation in the construction industry remains a necessity but the budget and funding remain a constraint (Varajão, et al., 2017).
