Cameras can be used to identify the road lane markings to guide vehicles to drivewithin the lane markings. In this assignment students are asked to develop a methodthat can identify the mid-line between the lane markings, indicated as “Driving path”,
The developed method should be implemented using MATLAB Image ProcessingToolbox. In particular, the developed method should automatically draw a line thatindicates the trace of mid-points between the lane markings, indicated by “Drivingpath”, in each image. Students can approach this using following steps:• Convert images to black and white with thresholding• Make each line solid by ‘dilating’ scatter lines• Reduce the thickness of each solid line by ‘thinning’ process• Using Hough Transform to work out the two most prominent lines• Calculate and plot the mid-points between these two lines in the imageClearly, above steps are NOT the only ways that this assignment can be solved.Students are encouraged to come up with their own approaches.DrivingpathDrivingpathStudents will be provided with four image files of Figures 1 (a) to 1(d) – can bedownloaded from vUWS. The developed method should work for all images withoutchanging any parameters in the program.Assessment and time schedule:This project forms a part of the assessment of the unit. Students are required to workin group of 2 students (or individually). The attendance at the tutorial sessions forthis project will be recorded. Students will be assessed based on their performancesin the tutorial sessions (40%), and the final written assignment (60%). In particularthe tutorial session performance will be assessed based on the time schedule outlinedbelow (Zero mark will be given if students fail to attend the said tutorial sessions, unless prior written permission has been granted by the lecturer):
