You are a senior database architect and Alphine Hospital group has hired you to create a state of art database for their day-to-day functioning. You are given a process document with details function of the hospital.
Hospital has two departments namely, in-patient department (IPD) and out-patient department (OPD). Both IPD and OPD patients require registration. Upon registration, personal details of the patients are collected, and they are referred to IPD section of the hospital. Depending upon the care and treatment required by the patient they can be treated in IPD, if hospitalization is not required. Otherwise, they are admitted to OPD section.
IPDs and OPDs are divided into specialties and wards respectively. IPDs specialties include - Surgery, Neurology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, to name a few. OPDs are divided into wards - General, Special, ICU. ICU can be further categorized as Surgical intensive care Unit (SICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU).
Each specialty and ward have a designated health care staff - doctors, nurses, assistants; and they are supervised by senior doctors. Health care staff can both be permanent or temporary.
Each doctor is provided with a web application to record patient diagnosis for each visit and search patient's history. Each nurse is provided with a hand-held mobile application that keeps track of patient’s treatment and medication administered. Each patient must take certain drugs for treatment (considering only medicinal treatment) at specific intervals during the day. The mobile device reminds the nurses 15 minutes in advance when the drug administration is due.
The system should also be capable of recording cost incurred during the patients stay in the hospital. There can be various cost categories against which the patient is charged on discharge from the hospital.
