Aggression in the workplace is quickly becoming the buzz word of the time. Workplace environment can affect mental happiness of employee. Workplace Aggression is the way that a person takes to harm another person. It can include any act in the workplace, from vocal or emotive harm to physical harm and slaughter. Here everyone in the workplace is being considered, like co-workers, current staff, past employers, or everyone w
hole else in the workplace, including customers, clients, and out workers. Aggression, in a workplace, in any form, is not a part of any job. It is a hazard, and employers must take reasonable actions to protect their employees and all the people connected with the workplace from aggressive incidents that may harm them. 
Workplace violence affects each and every workplace, country as well as professional group. The affect is to an extent where it may be even termed as an epidemic. Particularly in health care areas, employees do face the risk of being violence victim. As per the statistical data internationally, around 4 percent of all employee population has every now and then reported the physical violence from outsiders that is people who are not from their workplace originally. In health care specifically, violence tends to affect 50 percent of the healthcare professionals throughout the world wherein the nurses have three folds greater possibility of being exposed to violence in comparison to any other group professionally.
As in comparison to other profession fields, healthcare professional, more specifically the hospital staffs do face higher violence risk, it is significant and quite serious issue around the world affecting both developed as well as developing countries. The circumstances wherein the care is offered in healthcare professional setups makes these professionals more and more prone to the workplace violence which is occupational violence in this case. Factors associated with the increased number of violence issues in the healthcare industry may be summarized as healthcare professional tend to be in direct contact with lots of people from varying backgrounds who may be stressed because of illness or pain. Also, nursing staff in hospitals cares for individuals who are emotionally unstable or confused. Furthermore, staff in healthcare setup provides care in the secluded areas such as therapeutic interventions or diagnostic interventions. Most of the time nursing staff does perform the interventions requiring close physical contact. Staff in hospital does come in contact with families of patient who are mostly intense emotional charge mostly because of mental disorder, severe trauma or the bereavement. Areas like the emergency or Accidental unit possess the characteristics such as long waiting hours and the huge stress levels, this facts affects all individuals negatively. The staffs possess exposure to danger of commuting to work during early morning and late evening shifts. Also, 24 hours availability of drugs and money in hospitals makes them a target for robbers, shortage of staff specifically in peak ties. Furthermore, unrestricted visitors movement in all hospital areas is another risk causing workplace violence in hospitals.
There are several consequences associated with workplace violence. If employees have been physically or mentally affected as a result of aggression at the workplace, one can observe several changes in the behaviour of the employee like increased absenteeism from the work, Increase tiredness due to stress, increased sick leave, decline in the performance standards and impaired concentration. The effects of these kinds of behaviour are wide-ranging. They can result in physical harm to colleagues and clients and have a harmful impact on the business and its reputation. The outcomes can be poor job performance and the well-being and health of the person who is working in the workplace. 
Targets and sources of risk
Key Targets:
· Accident & Emergency unit’s staff- Staff working in these core units is key targets of violence because of stress, circumstances and other factors.
· Nursing students, Nurses & nurse assistants- Higher risk is associated with them in context of assault as compared to doctors.
· Security staff at hospitals.
· Minorities members
· Crews of ambulance.
Sources of Risk:
· Assault including use of weapons, murder, physical violence and rape.
· Verbal abuse caused due to ill language, tone and behaviour.
· Property destruction.
· Behaviour of threatening expressing harm intention, body language threats as well as written or verbal expression threats.
· Major violence such as Robbery.
