Introduction
    Dance has always been a vital part of everyday life in Africa. Black Africans have carried their dances to Central, South and North America. These dance styles of several Black indigenous groups combined with white dancers formed and added to the African aesthetic in America. Enslaved Africans in America connected with their native land keeping their traditional dance culture alive.
Effects of Slavery
    The slave owners have demonstrated the method of ‘dancing the slaves’ into a negative practice which was actually cultural redeeming for several African slaves in America. In fact, in North America, Indigenous African animal dances even found manifestation in the slave dances. By recasting of the same movements and gestures, a common language was created which was used for building better culture and community. The Slave Code of 1740 was passed after the Stono insurrectionists marched to the sounds of drums which led to the ban of large drums entirely.
