Collectivism:
Collectivism means the value which emphasizes on social and group bonding among individuals and prioritizing the group over self. All the individuals have some common goals and objectives. In USA, in the 19th century the reformers, politicians, intellectuals, religions leaders and trade unions and middle class activists stressed on the issue of welfare of the people of the society and improving their conditions is the responsibility of the government. Collectivism is always contrasted with individualism which emphasizes on the interest and rights of the individuals in the society. Collectivism was the concept which was followed by Marxist and Leninist ideology people. They believed in the sacrifice of one’s life for the betterment of the society or the group. Thomas Humphrey Marshall (T.H. Marshall) was a renowned British sociologist and believed that social welfare by the government is the right of every citizen and emphasized on housing, equal distribution of income and housing for all.

1. Welfare programs to help the needy: In US many people and families are provided assistance to get back on their feet. These may be through providing assistance for primary education, helping to get back into the workforce after losing job. These programs support the disabled person who is unable to work due to some reasons. These welfare support programs act as a support to the families which help them to earn their livelihoods during their difficult times in the US.
