Action Plan Proposal
Project title
Health Promotion and Community Development for the International Student
Target Group
The chosen community intervention with respect to the mental health issues are the international students. As discussed by Jackson (2017) that the studies have shown that international students are at the increased risk of experiencing por mental health, with the isolation from their families and the culture, language barriers, financial stress and along with the academic pressure that increases the stress among them, and that too considerably more than the domestic students. The present challenges faced by the physical and mental challenges, the reality of staying and studying in Australia does not match with the expectations of the international students, the difficulties in properly assessing the services because of the discrimination faced by them, the financial, employment and the housing stress faced by them, the barrier in English language as many international students are not proficient in the English language, experience of harassment, bullying and racism and lastly the limited resources available to them. The majority of international students do face these types of challenges, which further increases the mental pressure of them. Not only in the boundaries of the college or university campus, but the international students also face problems or discrimination in the local areas of Australia. There are incidents that the international students are not receiving necessary passes or proper safety while availing the public transport. The incidents are also reported regarding the lack of proper service awareness especially regarding the health insurance coverage, which also leads to a huge service gap. Hence, these issues calculatedly create immense pressure both on mental and physical aspects (Alsahfi & Shin, 2019). Therefore, there is a need for developing the community related initiates which will provide both physical health and mental health support to the international students.

This will help in developing proper guidelines that will identify these issues. The appointment of psychiatrist is required along with counsellor who will look after these issues and provide necessary counselling to the students who are suffering.
· The initiatives for addressing the mental health issues among the international students must be culturally appropriate and also, they must be tailored according to the issues faced by the students.
