Health information managers are needed by providers of healthcare and HIPAA-covered entities of others for ensuring information security and privacy for patients. Such involves medical billing and coding, compliance getting ensured with regulations of government and handling requests of customers for PHI (personal health information). They utilize administrative management skills, clinical knowledge and modern information technology for securing, analyzing and obtaining patient's traditional and digital health records. Their responsibilities involve maintaining, implementing and designing a computerized system of health information (Skurka, 2017). They educate co-workers regarding technology and procedures utilized towards medical records. They even supervise other employees. Such managers even assist in creating health information policies and setting budgets. They work in nursing homes, clinics, private practices and hospitals. They are even found in governmental organizations, federal agencies and health departments.
How might having a designated manager help ensure the privacy of patient records?
Having such a manager plays one significant role in managing healthcare information flow. Such includes not just overseeing things coming through other information portals and electronic health records but also ways in which information is getting released. They ensure organizations are following guidelines of HIPAA for avoiding costly penalties and protecting patient information.
Such managers help combat threats like phishing attacks, ransomware and malware and the hijacking of devices too. EHR of the patient usually involves long term information for data regarding the daily life of the patient. Such information turns out in use not only towards delivery and planning of care being progressive but would even give evidence for assessment of different interventions clinically (Su et al., 2017). System engineering techniques and tools have availability towards determination and modelling of information needs of the system delivering progressive care, evaluating the performance of systems.
