Jennifer is the Accounting Department manager for a nonprofit. Jennifer is an accounting “superstar.” She has a bachelor’s degree, recently passed her CPA exam, and is really exceptional in her accounting knowledge. She is so good, in fact, that she waspromoted to department manager in her previous companyafter only two years on the job. She has been at her current company for ten months.In thattime, she has implemented two accounting procedural changes that have streamlinedworkflowsand resulted in cost savings for the company.

Jenniferreports to the CFO, and he is concerned aboutherdespite her obvious talents. There isno denying that she has had a positive impact, but Jennifer is not fitting inwith her colleaguesand staff aswellas sheimpressesher bosses. Jennifer is a poor communicator and seems tohave alienated quiteafew of her peers andemployees.She is often aloof and distant, and her usual way of motivating performance is to simply dictatewhat will be done and expect compliance with her orders. She has good ideas but hasnotbeeneffective atpresentingthemin a way that makes others want to work with her. Notsurprisingly, she has difficultyworkingas part of a teamand has made it clear that she is notinterested in working withteamsif she‘s not in charge of them.You are Jennifer’s CFO, and you believe you can coachher. Discussion on Poor Interpersonal Skills
Jennifer is one of the most important employees of this organization also known as the accounting superstar. She has an immense knowledge of accountancy and had a bachelor’s degree along with a CPA, which makes her exceptionally talented in accounting knowledge. With her exceptional skills and knowledge, she has implemented two accounting principles that have resulted in cost saving of the company. However, being the CFO of the company, I have noticed that with the positive qualities that Jennifer has, she has somewhat negative qualities. Her behavior does not match well with the other employees. She does impress her bosses.
However, her attitude towards subordinates is not going to help her and the company. Hence, what I have decided to discuss few areas of improvement, therefore she could be able to cope with her subordinates and other colleagues to accomplish the organizational goals mutually. Vijayalakshmi has reviewed that these types of syndromes mainly takes place due to the poor interpersonal skills.
