Introduction
Coronary heart disease is one of the major healthcare issues in Australia, which includes diseases such as valve disease, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia and heart failure. The increase in this disease is mainly attributed to the modified lifestyle, use of tobacco products, poor diet, overweight issues, high level of alcohol consumption and physical inactivity. However, it is essential to implement interventions to address the issue related with the increased heart disease among elderly and the necessary plan to improve the health condition of the elderly. Further, in this paper the discussion conducted over the responsibilities of stakeholders involved in providing healthcare support, along with budgetary allocation for completion of this project.
Assessment of Coronary Artery Disease among Elderly Australians
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the leading cause of deaths among the Australians, both in male and female, and especially among the elderly citizens (Detering et al., 2019). It is the leading source of death in Australia, and it is putting an immense burden over the healthcare system of Australia. the issues related with the CHD is found more among the elderly citizens and it can be observed by the total burden of 216,800 DALY among males compared to females which is 112,000 DALY. It has also been observed that the burden of CHD is around 62%, which is followed by subordinating disease among the elderly such as high blood pressure (43%), high level of cholesterol (37%), overweight and obesity (25%) and many more (Ofori-Asenso et al., 2019). Because of this burden over the healthcare system, the estimated cost on the CHD is estimated to be around AUD 2.2 billion, where the expenditure in the private hospital services is around AUD 813 million, and in public healthcare services is AUD 693 million. Therefore, this data can clearly provide an overview that how much burden will have on elderly citizens for continuing with their treatment of CHD. Other issues faced by the healthcare professionals to provide the proper treatment services to the elderly people with CHD who are staying in remote areas, because there is an issue of accessibility along with unavailability of proper healthcare setups. Therefore, it is essential to address the elderly patients who are staying in remote areas, without the access of proper healthcare service to treat their CHD, and the lack of budget they face while doing expenses for their treatment.
