Each individual student will write a 1,500 word report on one critical strategic management issue for an organisation of their choice in the Tourism and Hospitality industry. Students are encouraged to engage with a Tourism and Hospitality business identified in the course or draw upon their own industry experience to uncover a key strategic management issue for a business in the Tourism and Hospitality industry. Some key areas of strategic management in the Tourism and Hospitality industry that may be of interest could include the following; competition, resources, competitive advantage, business level strategy, corporate level strategy, organisation structure and controls, globalisation, entrepreneurship, leadership and sustainability. This assessment seeks to develop the critical thinking skills and abilities of students through the identificationof a relevant strategic management problem for a Tourism and Hospitality business and the development of a viable strategic solution for that problem.

This report on ‘Strategic Management Issue in Hyatt Hotels’ consists of a detailed analysis about the company-The Hyatt Hotel, which is well known for its hospitality services to the customers. It has its presence in various parts of the world with larger market in China, India and Brazil. Hyatt being one of the renowned brands in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry faces tough competition from other well-known names of the same business. The company profile of Hyatt has been discussed in the report, which specifies the information related to its foundation, number of competitors, its set of services and presence in various parts of the world.
Further, this report give the details about the number of competitors faced by Hyatt, with few major competitors, who are Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Taj Hotels and Trident Hotels. The basis of competition amongst these brands are related to their presence in the domestic and international market, employee count, efforts and initiatives related to the staff management, and services regarding the room facilities, food and beverages. The market segment of Hyatt covers Leisure and business travellers, with its target group being the Upper class, diners and wedding groups (Hyatt, 2019).
In order to reflect upon the competition as one of the strategic management issues faced by Hyatt, its internal strengths and weakness and potential threats and opportunities has been discussed through the SWOT Analysis.
