Reflection on Team work
Team work is inevitably needed for an engineer in several occasions throughout his career. As long as an engineer work in an organization, essentially there is need for collaboration with peer groups to get the objectives met. For example when a engineering team is working for designing a new product. Right from the times of taking the specifications to preparing the final product, invariably engineers need to collaborate with other engineers in the team. They need to exchange their ideas on several aspects like ideas on sustenance of the product for environmental conditions, discussion on the quality, cost control, aesthetic, materials to be employed, schedule time, resources for production and so and so forth. Unless there is brainstorming from members from different specializations, a well functioning product design is not possible. This is a perfect example of team work. In design of a typical automobile hybrid energy engine system, recently we had discussion on the design and worked for finalizing diverse aspects of the model. In this connection, we had detailed discussion on several aspects of the model design. I did contributed for the material selection for the engine liners, provided options for the material selection within the budget and based on prevailing environmental conditions. It was a good experience in sharing information from different specialists and working for a unified vision. Further, my contribution also included aligning the direction of the team discussion in the direction of the objectives; it is some sort of team co-ordination and leading the team. As a team leader on several occasions I did exhibited the skills of co-ordination, conflict negotiation, motivation and so and so forth. Further I took responsibilities in comprehensively covering the requirements of the client (Specifications), taken responsibility in presenting the requirements to the team members, arranging the meeting, taken responsibilities to wrap up the proceedings and present the same to the management. Also there are occasions where it was required to take up expert on advise on sensitive matters of the design, the specific scenario is explained to the experts located outside the organization(Virtual team) and co-ordinated with them in choosing the right path of action in finalizing...
