Introduction
Leadership rounding approach is a technique, which engages patients, their family members, staff consisting of nurses, doctors and other support in a meaningful conversation so that their experiences can be helpful in improving the nature of care and provide suggestions (Blake and Bacon, 2020). Bedford Trust Hospital is one of the famous hospitals in UK set up in 1860s, which wants to improve the experience of patients, their attendants and the staff taking care of them. It will also they want to improve the NHS Patient Survey Score so that performance of the staff can be monitored.
In the survey, it has been found that the services in the acute medical unit were not at par with standards set and it is causing delay is offering emergency services. As the increasing inflow of ageing patients has been witnessed, it has been seen that there is delay in specialist care, as the concerned doctor does not reach the patient on time. The assistance provided by interns can be an option for better ownership, holistic service and less fragmentation. The therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient is also disturbing and the need of effective training is required to bridge the gap in service delivery.
Service Improvement Approach
According to Blake and Bacon (2020), leadership rounding will evaluate and monitor the day-to-day huddles so that they can be made stronger by empowering the staff. The staff will be more confident in speaking about the issues and concerns, which are hampering the quality of the services in acute medical unit. They will actively participate in change process and try to resolve at their end primarily thus making strong safety culture (Ryan et al. 2019). The improved interpersonal relationships and connectivity help to identify the major fallout of services and guide the team with a motivated approach to understand the responsibility and be accountable towards their actions.
The rationale behind the consideration is to create evidence-based support system so that the communication system between nurses and patient can be improved. This communication will result in improving the therapeutic relationship, which involves listening patiently to the aged patients, providing them explanations of their concerns and guiding them through the process of treatment so that patient and their family members can develop trust and confidence in the staff and the services (Costanzo et al. 2019). It will also help the authorities of the hospital to compare the performance of the Bedford with other hospitals and suggest recommendations in enhancing service production and delivery.
Leadership and Development
Training:
The gaps in skills and the knowledge need to be addressed on regular basis so that staff can be prepared on forefront for handling patients. Acute medical unit demands skilled staff so that patient experience can be enhanced with services, which come out to be satisfactory (Hefner et al. 2019).
Improved Communication Systems:
The channel of communications needs to be re-designed and any loopholes, which are hurdles, in delivering efficient services, should be removed (Savage, 2020). In addition, the patient data need to be secured and integrity should be maintained so in times of distress family can be supported. This also included therapeutic relation between nurse and patient.
Creating Support System:
The availability of resources such as whom to contact, doctors on duty, supporting medical staff, availability of interns and the shift manager along with HR manager to ensure that the use of human resource is optimised need to be...
