Summary of the Presented Issue
The case in the article, by Hansen, Pfaller and Schicktanz (2020), deals with the concept of organ donation in Germany. Various organizations throughout the world define the act of OD as a socially welcome act. There are various marketing techniques used by the organization to promote the idea to the targeted audience. The OD process is based on the concept of helping others, which is different from other health promotion activities such as HIV prevention.
The case of organ donation in German is supported by the German health ministry. Thus, there is several billion of funding that is granted to the Federal institute to promote the willingness of OD (Hansen, Pfaller & Schicktanz, 2020). ODC has a variety of objectives. This includes promotion, education and persuasion. Some campaigns are related to all three objectives while some are limited to only one.
Educating people about OD has nothing unethical to it. The concept of persuasion is divided in the paper and ethical standards are measured giants it. Forced donations are unethical and thus such activities are morally not supported. The freedom to choose and have one’s own opinion is of utmost importance. Health campaigns and health workers must duly respect such decisions.
