Effect of Social determinants of Health on obesity
The social determinants of Health (SDOH) are characterized as the condition in which a person spend their whole life, it consist of their surrounding whic
h includes the condition in which the person was born, were they grow, where and how they work and live. It also consist of set of forces which determines the overall shaping of their lives. In addition to social behaviors, these determinants also help to encompass the health equity, economy and global ecology also (Bennett et al., 2008).
Social determinants directly enables itself as a causal factor for fostering illness and disability in the people of the society, some of the commonly occurring diseases related to SDOH are obesity, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases. The disease that we will be discussing in this article is obesity. Obesity is a condition that lead to excessive body fat and the excessive fat is an obese person proves to be harmful for the overall functioning of the body and it can also lead to several other diseases such as cardiovascular diseases (Medvedyuk et al., 2018). Obesity is a critical condition in United states as more than 34.9 % adults and 16.9 % children are suffering from obesity. SDOH has a direct impact on fostering obesity in people as this disease is developed based on lifestyle of a person. The social determinants such as lifestyle, a person life at work, neighborhood, their surrounding conditions such as pollution etc. all of them determines their effect on the condition of obesity (Yusuf et al., 2020). Other lifestyle activities like smoking, drinking and eating junk food also contributes to instances of obesity in young people especially. Reports have found that The Mid – south region of the US has the highest number of people suffering from chronic diseases like obesity, cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
