Introduction
A healthcare organization must maintain several rules and regulations to give the patients safety and security according to the treatment procedures. They must follow to improve their quality standards with time. Such quality standards include reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infection, decreasing the mortality rate, reducing the time of hospital stay and reducing the readmission of the patients with proper and effective treatment. The quality measures help to improve the quality standards by taking several actions towards it.
Quality Measurement
The quality measurement of a healthcare organization depends on several factors such as the environment of the organization, the efficacy, the empathy towards the patients, the affectivity of the treatment and the efficiency of the workers (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ, 2015). These measures are based on the structure, process and the outcome of the healthcare organization.
The structure of the organization includes the types of services offered by them for proper healthcare of a diverse set of patients, the process includes the treatment and the medical care they receive and the outcome measures the result of the treatment offered for example number of deaths or hospital acquired infection during surgeries.
Quality Improvement
Once the quality measurement factors are organized, a healthcare organization can aim for the improvement of its quality standards. This can be done by including technologies, leadership skills, education and training and culture in the organization to increase the positive outcome of the patients (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2021). The desired health outcomes can only be achieved with systematic approach towards the improvement of the quality standards of the healthcare unit.
The quality indicator is used by the AHRQ to provide an evidence-based database for the inpatients of the hospital. It helps to track the performance and the outcome of the hospital.
