The genetically modified seeds by Monsanto had been criticised all over the world by environmental activists and farmers. The process had developed and attracted several muckraking documentaries and the Colbert Report (Migliorini). Social media has been flooded with reactions form different spheres of the society. This resulted in loss of the company reputation and goodwill. Similarly after the incident was made public most of the countries that imported wheat from the US suspended all transactions. Other than these the company saw a fall in its share price by almost 4% in a single day. The only positive form of consent was that the United States Department of Agriculture came to know about the incidents and took measures to launch an investigation.
The sale of seeds to farmers in the US and abroad is controlled by Monsanto. The process occurred with introduction of hybrid seeds. Once the hybrid seeds were introduced into the system the farmers became more aware of the high yield crops (Migliorini). This attracted them to buy the hybrid seeds and supplements such as fertilizers, animal feed etc. Monsanto started to buy and merge with several small business and companies which resulted in more market share and gradually the company could make a monopolistic market.
