Final Project (60 pts total: 40 pts for Research Paper, 4 pages minimum, and 20 pts for Research Presentation):The purpose of this assignment is to help you effectively communicate in writing about a modern public health problem (examples: teen smoking, diabetes, food insecurity, breast cancer, suicide, concussions, asthma, etc.). This assignment should be thoroughly referenced, with a minimum of 5 quality references. As a research paper, it should NOT be written in first person, but rather objectively. (Do NOT include “I” statements; do not include personal anecdotes or opinions. Think about this format: Fact (cite), fact (cite), fact (cite)



Don't forget introductory and concluding paragraphs.



  • Describe the problem/disease/condition, including why it is important to public health.

  • Present epidemiological facts, such as incidence, mortality, prevalence, counts, rates. Identify and discuss any disparities by sex, age, education, etc. Do NOT choose a topic for which you cannot find the NUMBERS.

  • Describe what can be/has been done to improve the problem, including public health prevention strategies, include primary, secondary, and tertiary, if possible as well as existing public health programs, if relevant.

Healthy lifestyle is one of the major requirements for having healthy and long life. However, in spite of understanding various aspects of healthy lifestyle and promotions done, some of the common diseases have become concerning due to their rapid spread at global level. Diabetes is one of the public health problems, which arise from several factors (Bullard et al., 2018). In almost every nation, both types of diabetes have been commonly found and people pertain to overlook the early signs of having it.
As per the norms of developing proper healthcare frameworks, addressing the ongoing issue of diabetes in a developed nation like United States is deemed mandatory. It is to ensure that no extra burden is placed over the healthcare service providers especially when there is the widespread impact of a disease, which can be prevented through awareness. The following is the analysis of diabetes as the public health issue and the ways, in which it can be prevented through promotions and social campaigns of motivating people to have healthy lifestyle.
Epidemiological Factors
At first, it is important to note here that the data projection about diabetes and United States are quite concerning to the scholars of healthcare. As per the observation of the report published in 2020 on behalf of CDC, 34.2 million people in United States (an overall 10.5% of entire population) currently suffer from any state of diabetes which means that one out of ten person is having some kind of diagnosis related to diabetes (CDC, 2020). This number is even more concerning to the healthcare operators due to the lack of access or the knowledge of the symptoms that people commonly have.
In other words, if the above number is divided for better understanding, 26.9 million of overall populations out of which 26.8 million are adults are now presently diagnosed with diabetes.
