People tend to believe that women are the more emotional sex. This belief stems less from what men and women actually do than from the explanations given for their behaviors. A study conducted by Barrett and Bliss Moreau, (2019) emphasized on such a finding indicating that the emotional attributes are biased attached to both the sexes. In the 2 experiments conducted in the study, participants who were given situational information about the causes of emotional expression more frequently judged the females showing such behavior as “emotional”, whereas they more frequently judged males in the study as “having a bad day”. This oddly biased situational attribution for almost similar cases is provided for males while women are labeled as having a rather distributional attribution. These findings help explain only the persistent faith among a wide number of people that women are actually more emotional when compared with men. Although there is no scientific reality to this belief yet the conclusions found at the end of the study is remarkable nonetheless.
