Introduction
This is an age of terrific advancements. However, with the emergence of social media and
other communication platforms, the mental disturbances of people are increasing at a high rate. That is the reason why it is very important to deal with the different kinds of counseling methods as they can benefit the people by ensuring their self-esteem and boosting their self-confidence to higher levels. This report deals with comparing and contrasting two basic approaches of the models of counseling named as the person-centric model and the solution-focused model.
Person-Centered Counseling Therapy
At the very beginning of the 1940s, Carl Rogers gave birth to a form of psychotherapy, which involves the client's direct attention and the discussion between the counselor and the client in an isolated place. This form of psychotherapy is known as the person-centered or the client-centered counseling theory or approach. This has been a very popular counseling mode even in the present era (Tolan & Cameron, 2016). Counseling is a process through which people's mental states can be balanced and for that, it is very important to make the client understand their self worth and self-potential all at the same time. As those things are discussed through this counseling model and this initiative reflects a lot on the inner self of an individual this is known as the person-centered therapy.
Role of the Counselor
In this case, the counselor plays a very critical role in the lives of the patients or the clients going through some mental instability or mental trauma. The counselor no longer plays the role of a professional in this case rather the person becomes a form of a friend, a family or a confidante to the client with which the client can share their deepest secrets, sorrow, joys or the feelings they are piling up through all the past years. Through the counselor, the clients can get a self-reflection of their own. They can understand their true selves and they can also figure out the real potential as well as what they have to give in this world full of chaos and unstable situations. In these criteria, the counselor is the major role in the client's life.
Role and importance of the Therapeutic Alliance
This therapy sets an alliance between the different kinds of theories of cancelling. They also rely on the theories of the self-reflection and observation of the different actions a person does throughout their lives. The counseling therapy sets out the difference between the positive activities and the negative activities within a person's life and thus the person can understand what is good and what is bad (Stokes, 2017). The major role of this therapeutic alliance is to bring the clients out from their mental traumatic state and make them look onto the bright sides of the life they share with their friends and family. These therapeutic alliances are important to keep the clients in a stable position and make them healthy from the inside; these are the different dimensions of therapeutic alliances, the counselor relies on through this person centric approach.
Specific Techniques Associated
The specific techniques that are used in this kind of counseling model are mainly communication. The counselor discusses the problems and the facts through a very informal communication process with their clients. This type of communication process makes the clients free and loosens himself or herself up to a stranger like a counselor. The communication and thorough discussion process are the only techniques that can be used in this person-centered approach. Besides that, this technique needs a lot of secrecy as well as the counselor vows not to disclose any personal information to any outside party. Through these techniques, the clients can feel secure in discussing their problems to the...
