Quality Analysis of Packaging Data
Abstract
Statistical Process Control method is a method used in statistics which is used to measure and monitor a process with the aim of controlling or improving it. In this document, we shall attempt to do the same with our data-set which contains the weight of th
e sample in grams and the number of the line (there are 2 lines in total) from which it was picked.
Introduction: Statistical Process Control Method
Statistical Process Control Method as the name suggests is a method of controlling the process of production or manufacturing or any other process with the help of Statistics.
· Statistics: Statistics is a technological science which is involved with the collection, summarization, analysis, and mining useful info from the given data.
· Process: It converts the given input resources into the preferred output (items or services) with a mixture of people, materials, methods, machines, and measurements.
· Control: System, policies, and methods which have been put in place to ensure that the output meets our required standards.
Reason for using Statistical Process Control Method
· Companies today face increasing competition and ever-increasing operating costs, including raw materials. Therefore, organizations benefit from being in control of their operations.
· Organizations should strive for continuous improvement in quality, efficiency and cost reduction. Many companies still follow post-production control for quality-related issues.
· SPC helps companies move closer to prevention-based quality control rather than
-based quality control.
· By monitoring SPC charts, organizations can easily predict process behaviour.
Methodology:
Two variables were under study- Weight of the package and the assembly line to which it belonged. The data set has 100 samples. We shall use SPSS plot the control chart, find descriptive statistics, plot histogram, find error-plot chart, find scatter-plot chart and also find pareto chart for the same.
Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive statistics is used to describe, show, and summarize the basic characteristics of a dataset found in a particular study, presented in an executive summary that describes the data sample and its measurements. Helps analysts better understand the data. The descriptive statistics of our data is as follows-
    Descriptive Statistics

    N

    Maximum
    Mean
    Std. Deviation

Histogram
A histogram is a graphical representation which makes use of rectangles in order to show the frequency of the data that is given. In other words, the height of the rectangle shows how many times or how often that particular variable appears. Given below are two histograms which show how many times a particular value of package weight has occurred in each of the assembly lines, namely – Line 1 and Line 2
Error Plot (Box-plot)
The chart given below shows the uncertainty in the given data points of Line 1 and Line 2. It shows the maximum and minimum values in both the Lines.
Scatterplot
A scatterplot is most widely used as a visual aid to spot outlier values. It plots the data-points as Cartesian coordinates. Here, the x-axis simply gives the Sample no. and the Y coordinate is the respective weight given by that sample number.
