When you write a research essay, you are presenting an argument on a specific topic. Your essay should be logically organized to explain your argument well. This assignment will give you a chance to bring together all the parts of an essay (introduction, thesis statement, topic sentences (5 key areas), paragraphs, conclusion, and references) into a comprehensive text. This assignment will also allow you to revise and polish your essay for the final submission. Assignment Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this assignment, students will have reliably demonstrated the ability to: 1. Organize information into clear and coherent messages. 2. Compose written, spoken and visual messages for diverse purposes and audiences. 3. Evaluate information for currency, reliability, authority, and purpose. 4. Use credible sources to support ideas. 5. Show academic integrity by integrating a documentation system to acknowledge sources. 6. Revise messages to improve effectiveness. 7. Apply academic research and writing skills to written research projects and oral presentations. Research Essay First Draft Guidelines: 1. The essay must be formatted in APA style (7th Edition APA Manual). 2. 3-5 pages of text are required (not including title page and references page). 3. A minimum of 5 credible research sources in the essay (these sources must be properly cited in APA style both in-text and on a references page). 4. The essay must contain a well-developed thesis statement. 5. Organize your essay to include an introduction, thesis statement, paragraphs (3-5 topic sentences and key areas), a conclusion and references. 6.
