Running Head: EXTREMISM ESSAY
EXTREMISM        9
EXTREMISM RESEARCH ESSAY
Introduction
Young people across the globe as well as in the Canada are the important source of support for a lot of terrorist groups with the roles ranging from the armed fighters toward the cooks. However, the ways by which the young people are recruited tends to vary across contexts. Throwing light on the above-mentioned discussion it can be stated that youth both female and male are more or less employed in recruitment, support and also in the combat r
oles in the terrorist groups via a significantly high proportion of youth combatants are mainly male.
For this particular essay I have selected the topic where it is assumed that I am the member of The Canada Centre for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence and responsible for the development and implementation in terms of the National Strategy on Ccountering Radicalization to Violence. One of the major vulnerabilities that are taken into account for this is task is economic vulnerability.
Main Body
The Social or Political Marginalization behind motivating a youth to join the extremist group
It can be stated that the relationship between the Political and Social vulnerability as well as the recruitment is quite complicated and it also tends to vary across context. However, there are some of the researches as per the country specific a connection between the economic development indicators as well as the terrorist attacks; survey research calls into question the significant relationship (Darden, 2019). The studies from North Africa and Middle East Africa have constantly highlighted that the economic factors are not at all a motivation for the recruitment along with radicalization. As per a study 2015 in terms of the Jordanians who joined al-Nusra Frontand also ISIS in the Syria as well as Iraq found no such evidence of the economic compensation for the new recruits. However, most of the youths joining the extremist groups are motivated by the Social or Political Marginalization. The feelings of the individuals in terms of exclusion from their society or community play a major role concerning the terrorist recruitment. However, it is quite evident that the terrorist groups can position themselves as an alternative community that promises that they will be the voice for the young people when nobody in the society hears them and also they will be able to feel the sense of belonging whenever they join the group. There are a lot of international organizations consisting of the United Nations and also the World Bank integrating young individuals into the decision-making procedure as one of the way for countering this sense of disaffection (Al-Badayneh& Al Hassan, 2016). There are some of the programs that is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for countering the violent terrorism which consist of the civic education programs, social media trainings and activist, youth leadership activist, as well as the public forums between the political leaders and the youth leaders also reflect a clear concern with regards to the political or social-marginalization of the youth. However, it is needless to say that the gender decriminalization can worsen political and also the social marginalization. Some of the initiatives that are undertaken by USAID for countering the violent extremism have sought for addressing this by simply organizing the gender-neutral programs.
Still these programs still fail for achieving the gender parity among the participants. In some parts of the Africa, USAID has highest success rate in terms of attracting young women for participating in the female-only programs for countering violent extremism. It is needless to say that such programs may tend to reinforce the existing social norms that will be placing a woman in disadvantage (Chin, 2015). The Peace through Development II programming in Chad by USAID included a lot of female trainings especially on catering, tailoring and also the food service. On the contrary, young men were highly represented on trainings that were specifically on welding, repairing the engines, and maintaining the air conditioners. Throwing light on the above-mentioned discussion it can be stated that the assumed exclusion in terms of the Sunni Arabs from the 2003 political settlement in the Iraq. For instance, it highly stated as one of the major cause of the 2006-2008 civil wars and also later on during the ISIL rises. In the Liberia, it was felt by the people that the war was an absolute necessity as Muslims required to remind the Christian people that the entire country belonged to them. It is suggested by some of the researchers that assumed discrimination against the Catholic population concerning the Northern Ireland that prompted a turn toward the violence (Bull & Rane, 2019).
The political and also religious dimensions are independent of each other. Family binds to psychological militants have time after time been ignored in both the West and abroad. Albeit few examinations of family binds to rough extremism exist, research exhibits that numerous young individuals from furnished gatherings in Mali had somewhere around one parent who was an individual from a fierce fanatic group. As ISIS solidified its region in Syria...
