Yes, CFO MacDonald has reason to think Gunny sack is in a period of diminishing returns. Because at current e
mployment Gunny sacks produces 87 units per day with 54 workers, production will have diminishing returns when Gunny sack expand its production by expanding the labor inputs beyond 60 worker. From the graph it is revealed that the production of Gunny Sack reaches its maximum by employing 60 workers, using labor input greater than 60 workers lead to decrease in production. Using labor inputs below 60 workers will result in increasing returns to scale. Therefore CFO MacDonald has reason to think Gunny sack is in a period of diminishing returns to scale with an expansion in production of Gunny sack.
B. Diminishing returns to labor input occurs when a gunny sack expands its production by hiring more labor input resulting in lower increase in production of output .This occurs due to management and limited supply of raw materials. Continuous increase in production with expansion of inputs will lead to cumbersome in managing the business activities, so while expanding the production we should maintain a specific ratio between administrating labors and labors involved in production activities.
