The major issue that has been witnessed within the tourism industry is terrorism, natural disaster and political turmoil. It has been found that these contemporary issues majorly lead to an impact on the tourism sector across the world. Terrorism In the research, this has been witnessed that the threat from the terrorism will remain high and might be it can get worse in the last few decades. Terrorism has proved remarkably resilient during 2015 even though there were many conflicts and terror attacks that took place across the world. However, there are many destinations whose authorities and companies are trying and pitting efforts to recover the diverse crises (World Travel and Tourism Council, 2016). It has been witnessed that the impact of the disasters, conflicts and other disruption on the tourism that was the theme of the well-timed discussion at the 23rd World Travel Monitor Forum in Pisa, Italy (IPK International, 2016). The perception of the people has been changed towards the destination because of the rise in the terrorist attack. Most of the consumer keeps travelling to the place where they are safe instead of any place that seems to be troubled. In the research, this has been found more Islamism extremists from maximum countries that are active at many placed than ever before. The rise in extremists will continue to affect the fragile as well as the violence-prone states which consist of Southeast Asia for the safe heavens and to form the skills (Australian Government, 2017). It has been witnessed that global tourism will add to the instability and also affects the security level of the customers which is majorly witnessed in countries like the Middle East as well as Africa. There is a wide range of communication technology that approves the extremists to motivate or directly attack the areas. New technology makes its similar for the terrorists to make advanced biological or chemical warfare agents. (Source: Global Terrorism Database) The graph given above shows the improvement in terrorist incidents across the world. It has been found that numbers of terrorist incidents are improving across the world. The graph shows the rise in injuries, deaths and number of other terrorist-related incidents that are growing across the world. From the year 2012, there is a tremendous rise till the year 2016 in all the incidences which affected tourism. Natural environment Disaster The rise in the natural environment disaster is one of the growing challenges for the tourism industry across the world. The influence of the natural disaster is increasing from the past few years which are attributed to the changing weather patterns and natural habitats across the world also with the rise in several tourist spots and activities (Mariano, 2018). Currently, a wide number of natural reserves as well as areas were once inhabitable that are being accessible by different country to attract the tourists. Natural disaster causes many tourism destinations due to which they lost their beauty, culture and economy majorly for the temporary or the extended period which affects the tourists to visit these place and they simply switch to other places (Schmude, Zavareh, Schwaiger and Karl, 2018). For instance, during the tsunami, the car the Nicobar Islands get the worst it. In fact, this has been found that most of the islands have been washed away ad some like Trinket that means they got the spilt into two. This island has affected tourism completely which affected the GDP of the country as well as the livelihood of many people. After the decade, the remaining island was looking for the salvage whatever remains possible as there is no scope for the tourism industry anytime in the coming years. Political turmoil The political turmoil includes the instability in terms of the political which include the civil unrest and war that lead to the rise in the perception of the risk at the destinations. The political instability is one of the major reasons that have created an impact on the tourism industry. The good political stability leads to safety as well as the security of the people within the country (IPK International, 2016). However, when this security and safety is threatened, war will be engaged to ensure future safety as well as security. Travellers ensure the safety and security of the country when they visit the place for vacations or holiday. Lack of safety and security at the destination affects both business and leisure travel negatively. This can be understood with the example of Bali Terrorist bombings that took place in 2005 which created an impact on tourism in the short term (Ingram, et al, 2013). (Source: Roy Morgan, 2016) The graph above reflects that bombing has affected the tourism visit within the country for a short period. This means that customer always looks for the safety and security which is possible with the help of political turmoil. The reasons for bombing can be political instability within the country. (Source: IPK International, 2016) It has been found that the major impact on tourism has been witnessed due to political turmoil. In the research, this has been witnessed when the two countries don't have the sound relationship and issues then they create an impact on the activities within the country. Political turmoil has a much more gradual impact which lasts for a long period and there is less possibility to over this issue. As per the centre’s survey, it has been identified that approx. 29% of the tourism sector participants were worried which is further followed by the different elements that include economic crisis at 24%, the natural disaster at 23% and then comes new diseases at 22% (Econ, 2013). Thus, this shows that political tensions affect the tourist to visit any country. Conclusion In the end, this can be concluded that contemporary issues which are majorly analysed include terrorism, natural environment and political turmoil as it leads to the major impact on the activities of tourism. The discussion shows that these incidents have brought major changes in the behaviour of customers. It is predicted that shortly these issues leads to the major influence on the tourism activities which will affect the growth, development and livelihood of people.
