2.1 Introduction
Kinematics is the branch of mechanics in which we studied different physical properties like position, velocity and acceleration of an object and how they change
during the motion. In kinematics, we cover different types of motions like:
1. The simple one-dimension motion in which an object moves in a straight line with constant velocity. Here, the particle motion can be represented by the following linear equation:
x = x0 + vxt -----[1]
here, x0 is the initial position of the object at time t = 0, x is the final position of the object at time t = t, t is the time taken and vx is the velocity of the object. For this motion, the position vs. time graph gives a straight line and its linear slope will denote the velocity of the object during the motion.
2. Motion with constant acceleration- in this type of motion the object moves by changing its velocity at a uniform rate so that its acceleration remains constant. This type of motion can be represented by the following equation:
y = y0 + v0yt + (½)ayt2-----------[2]
here y0 is the initial position of the object at time t = 0, y is the final position of the object at time t = t, t is the time taken, v0y is the velocity of object and a is the acceleration. For this motion, the position vs. time graph gives a non-linear curve or parabola. The line tangent drawn on this curve denotes the slope or the instantaneous velocity at a given time.
3. Motion with constant downward acceleration because of the earth’s acceleration due to gravity i.e., here ay = -g or -9.80 m/s2. This type of motion follows a quadratic relationship shown below:
y = y0 + voy t - (½) gt2--------[3]
In this lab work, we studied and analyzed the kinematics of a ball that performed the different types of motions i.e., motion with uniform velocity and motion with uniform acceleration by tracking the changes in its position over time t using the Tracker software.
2.2 Materials used-
The following items were used to perform this experiment-

· Ruler or tape measure for measurement
· Digital camera to capture the different types of motions of ball
