Part 1: Literacy Program Analysis Survey

In this Analysis assignment, you will complete a survey to assess a school’s literacy program, preferably your own. You will analyze both the instructional program and the school infrastructure supporting the program. Portions of the survey were adapted from research on outstanding literacy programs conducted by Patty, Maschoff, and Ransom (1996).

Directions for Completion:

Place an X in the column that best describes your school’s performance on each literacy characteristic.

Use the data you generate from the survey to create a visual summary (in the format of your choice) of the data you collect here. Include this visual summary in your assignment submission.Do NOT include the actual full survey.

Use the data you generate to respond to the questions in Part 2.

I have attached my completed survey as well as data from our school report card.

Part 2: “Analyzing a School-wide Literacy Program” Paper

Compose a five- to seven-page “Analyzing a School Literacy Program” paper.

Respond to each question in a well-developed paragraph.

Follow APA formatting for citations and references page.

Include an introduction and a conclusion.

Based on the survey, what do you see as the greatest strength of the school’s literacy program? Address one strength. (I'd like our school strength to be the multicultural resources provided by our Immersion department. We received new books at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year that were all diverse and intended to increase the diversity in our classroom libraries. Furthermore, we are a dual language immersion program and students are exposed daily to Spanish language instruction where teachers are encouraged to incorporate cultural aspects into their teaching as well).

Based on the survey, what do you see as the greatest area of need in the school’s literacy program? Address one area of need. I believe our greatest area of need in with our English language learners.

What data are available to support the area of need you have identified? Describe the data (actual numbers) and source. For example, you may use a School Report Card, School Improvement Plan, or formative/summative data collected at the school. (In our school report card, when you look at the MCAP data, the ELL students are underachieving compared to their peers. I have attached that data ). Furthermore, on the school report card, ELL did not meed their improvement goal. I have also attached that pdf.f you had the opportunity to chart a new direction for the school’s literacy program, what steps would you take? I believe we need to adjust our literacy program to take into account that, by the design of our immersion program model, 50% of our students are ELL. We need to incorporate strategies that are research-proven to work with ELL students in help them in the 5 major literacy components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension,

Assemble the document entitled, “Analyzing a School Literacy Program,” including the following:

Title page

An introduction to the data being presented

The survey results (your visual summary, do NOT include the full survey)

The narrative addressing the questions

Introduction
A school literacy program is a set of plans that support the developm
ent of reading and writing skills of the students of the school. The literacy program helps in the overall educational progress of a school. Recently, our school, Barrington High School had conducted a literacy program successfully. It was based on different research topics on different activities practiced in the school. Then, a survey was done to get an idea about the outcome of the literacy program. Here, we will discuss about the various aspects of the result we received from the survey.
The survey results
The result of the survey of the literacy program and the instructional program provided insights into different issues associated with the educational trends of our school. A few sections of the outcomes can be regarded as achievements and some of them arise concerns. There are enough implications to state that the all-English learner students are not performing up to the mark. They are lagging both in the areas of English language arts and Mathematics. Their yearly development in these subjects is not very impressive according to the figures provided by the survey. Whatever might be the reasons behind this phenomenon, it is a significant concern for the school.
There are some hiccups in the process of teaching, which needs to be doing away. Some of the teachers are not very elaborative in their process of teaching. They need to resort to a more nuanced process to convey their views to the students clearly. Though the fraternity has used some effective ways and tools for the development of vocabulary of the students, they are far from being enough. It needs a huge amount of materials of various genres to make the students interested in literature and subsequently in developing the stock of words; our school must work on it urgently. The teachers are not enough involved in introducing the students to different technological aspects like mobile apps which are good for the growth of vocabulary.
Whenever they would start to do it, the process of teaching would be easier. The survey of the literacy program has focused on some flaws of the system, which were never emphasized before. The important decisions of the school are...
