Covid has meant more online learning development. To answer this Otago would like to develop an online simulation game for our Construction management course. The course covers many aspects including: · Planning and managing of construction projects · Site logistics and project management (managing time, costs, quality and client satisfaction) · People management and negotiation skills, and · Construction business management. and must include the ability to run simulations as though students were constructing a supermarket and a block of flats within the site. The site needs to be able to provide access for a class team of three, two students and one lecturer, but also upto 100 teams online at once. It also needs to include real time chat utility as well as videoconferencing porta for collaboration. You will need to include security that works for multiple teams using the system concurrently and provide online training as part of the project. The system will also need to be a repository for past learning and a page to guide Iwi/Maori practices. Sustainable practices also need to be included as prompts in the site, and a homepage mock-up also needs to be included in your planning. 2. Industry relationships is an important part of the OPAIC philosophy, and as part of ongoing development an applied research conference is being planned for all staff from the three campuses (both academic and management staff), and all research active students to showcase current and recently completed industry projects to our industry partners. As such the academic staff, any operational staff that have research as part of their role, and all research active students at the three campuses will get together during term 5 in 2021. The three-day conference will be held in Hamilton and will showcase both previous and current industry projects. There will also be separate sessions for individual schools to run specific research with question-and-answer sessions as well as workshops where industry partners can discuss their future staffing needs. The conference will include best practice in Iwi/Maori collaborations, and on the second evening a Gala dinner is to be provided with speeches from key OPAIC leadership. OPAIC are going to start their Master of Computing degree at our Auckland campus and we will be investing a lot of money into this project. Level 7 will require state of the art computer facilities, each housing 24 students, including one lab where computer hardware can be built and networked. Level 8 will be more of an open, informal study centre where students will have access to quiet areas and group areas to work on projects. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in the way our live, work, and learn.
Learning module now a days shifted towards online learning and educational institutions have been exploring new ways of delivering courses to students. The University of Otago is no exception, and is looking to develop an online simulation for their Construction Management course. The Construction Management (Institute) course at Otago covers a wide range of topics, including planning and managing construction projects, site logistics and project management, people management and negotiation skills, and construction business management. The online simulation will provide a practical learning experience for students, allowing them to apply their knowledge in a simulated construction project environment. The propose simulation will involve the construction of a supermarket and a block of flats on a virtual site. It will provide an opportunity for students to experience the challenges of managing time, costs, quality, and client satisfaction. The propose project will also require students to develop people management and negotiation skills as they work collaboratively in a team of three, consisting of two students and one lecturer. The online simulation game must be designed to accommodate up to 100 teams online simultaneously, with each team consisting of three members. To facilitate collaboration, the game will include real-time chat utility and a video conferencing portal. Security measures will also be put in place to ensure that the system is secure and safe for multiple teams using it concurrently. To ensure that students are well equipped to use the online simulation game, online training will be provided as part of the project. The simulation game will also serve as a repository for past learning, allowing students to review their progress and reflect on their learning. In line with the University of Otago's commitment to honoring Iwi/Maori practices, the online simulation game will include a page to guide students on incorporating Maori practices into construction management. To fulfil this project requirement research, propose for three methodologies, they are:
