Weighting: 40% Length: Between 2000 and 2500 words (excluding reference list but including template headings) 1 Assessment Overview This assignment requires you to identify and provide preliminary information to support a future research proposal and draws on information taught in weeks 1-5. A template is provided in the Moodle page for Assessment 1 and must be used in completing this assignment. You are required to: 1. Choose a topic area to research (using the Research Topic Generation Tool for Assignment 1 provided in the Week 1-Tutorial section of unit Moodle site and as addressed in the tutorial activity for Week 1) 2. Identify a specific gap in the scholarly research relating to your chosen topic area (based on your reading about the topic) 3. Complete each of the sections in the provided template (Instructions on how to use the template are provided within the template itself). The template requires you to provide a rationale for your proposed research, write a basic literature review to show your understanding of the research area, identify and describe the research question/s and objective/s for your research and explain, with reasons, whether you will use a quantitative, qualitative or mixed methodology approach in your research design. Your ability to demonstrate understanding of these processes will determine the marks you are given. Investigating the Benefits of Increasing Project Management Skills in IT Projects in Australia
    1. Research gap and rationale for undertaking the proposed research
Project management is a very important framework and increasingly used within business environments to undertake projects of comp
lex and significant nature in an effective and successful manner. In this context, the literature review undertaken led to identification of gaps of detailed assessment and investigations with respect to increasing the levels of skillsets for project management in the context of IT projects within Australian environment.
In this context, insights and findings from investigating the benefits which accrue from increasing the skillsets of project management within the contexts of IT projects undertaken in Australia shall have significant advantages to both practical industry contexts as well as academic contexts. Hence, this study holds significant value and forms the basis to be pursued further. In specific this research shall aid in determining relationship between project management skillsets and performance of IT Projects, and how can project management skillsets be increased for personnel undertaking IT projects.
    2. Literature review of ten (10) scholarly journal articles
a) Literature review
Sunindijo (2015) on the basis of analysis undertaken shows interpersonal influences have positive form of impacts on project performance. They also found that four of the key skillset components which include interpersonal skillets, emotional intelligence, budgeting knowledge and apparent sincerity to have significant impact on cost performances of a project. It is also noted that project quality related performances are influenced by skill components and these entails emotional intelligence, visioning, transformational leadership, interpersonal skill, apparent sincerity, interpersonal influence, document / contract administration, and quality management. Similarly, Fayaz et al. (2017) finds that leadership qualities to have significant and critical role to obtain support from top management for the purposes of accessing the required resources. The leadership qualities, however, do not have any role with respect to capable / trained members of project team. Apart from the same, Fayaz et al. (2017) defined that an effective form of communication in project for having an influential impact on successful outcome as well as contributing factor to overall success in the context of IT projects. Further, Pollack and Adler (2016) illustrated that while controlling over influences on other business skillsets, IT as well as project management skillsets having significant form of positive influence over sales as well as profitability. All of these studies establish the link between project management skillsets and the performance of IT projects.
Durrani and Baroudi (2015) undertook an examination with respect to the alignment concerning professional needs in project management context to that of aspirations pertaining to education / certification for project management provided in Australian universities. Durrani and Baroudi (2015) identified inadequate alignment with respect to current education provided by Australian universities on project management in terms of project management related practices as well as recommend revisions in education programs for project management in meeting knowledge requirements as has been expressed by professionals in project management. These findings Durrani and Baroudi (2015) essentially contribute towards the ongoing debate with respect to enhancing education on project management closer to practices in project management.

Rugenyi (2016) find that an ability for effectively managing triple constraints shall determine whether projects shall succeed or else fails. On the basis of empirical evidences, Rugenyi (2016), find project managers who possess long experiences do not necessarily manage triple constraints in a better manner as compared to less experienced ones.
