Introduction
The initiative of police data is “Law enforcement community of practice that includes leading law enforcement agencies, technologists, and researchers committed to engaging their communities in a partnership to improve public safety that is built on a foundation of trust, accountability, and in
novation.”
This data is Founded by The Police Foundation. Data is reported directly from Fayetteville police agency (OpenData). This is a cross section data and self reported by the police agency.
Primary reason for the data collection is records because police department wants records and they have chosen to make it accessible to the general public.
Descriptive Statistical Analysis
Table and graph of distribution of all traffic stop by race and gender reveal that the speed limit violation is maximum in the total population and also maximum in the male, female, black and white population. Driving while impaired is minimum for total population and also minimum for all categories of population. In the same manner we can see the table of distribution of citation issued by race and gender which again shows that it is maximum for speed limit violation and minimum for driving while impaired corresponding to different categories of population. Maximum number of no action taken and maximum number of written warnings are for speed limit violation in total and each category of race and gender in the population.
Correlation:
Correlation is the linear relationship between two variables. Correlation coefficient gives the degree of linear association between two variables. Correlation coefficient lies between plus one to minus one i.e. -1 to +1. If the coefficient is positive then we say that if one variable increases then other will also increase and if the coefficient is negative then one variable increases with decrement of another variable. Correlation will be high if it have the value near about +1 or -1 for example ±0.7, ±0.8 and ±0.9 and it is perfect positive (perfect negative) if the value is +1 (-1). It is moderate if the value is ±0.6, ±0.5 and lowers if it is less than 0.5. Correlation tables shows that the correlation is high among total population, black male, black female, white male and white female for traffic stops, citation issued, no action and written warning because values of correlation coefficients are greater than 0.8.
Chi Square: Testing of Independence of Attribute
Chi square distribution has the various applications but the famous applications are testing of hypothetical variance, goodness of fit and independence of attributes. This study utilized the application of testing of independence of attributes. This testing is applied if there are two attributes having different categories and we want to test the independency of these attributes. To apply this we need to make a cross table which have the observed frequency corresponding to each attribute and category. Here first attribute is traffic stop having the categories citation issued, written warning and no action and second attribute is race having the...
