Introduction
Phillips financial services is a medium size financial services consulting firm. This company started a shor
t while ago and does not have board of directors. Nick who is the owner of the company is the sole decision maker. The company has a multicultural staff where the employees have different values and beliefs as a result there is a lot of bullying. Moreover there is a huge gap in the percentage of male and female employees. CEO is noticing that as his company is growing the staffs is stressed and their morale is low. If this continues founder of the company Nick will not be able to achieve his vision of his firm to be like PWC, KPMG etc. CEO promotes diversity in order to maintain a good environment in the workplace however some of its team members are not open minded and thus are not ready to accept the cultural differences in the organisation. Moreover increasing competition in the industry is making things even more difficult. This proposal will address the following purposes:
1. The importance of having a well balanced and appropriate organisational structure for Phillips financial services as it is growing rapidly.
2. Measures which could be taken to reduce the bullying behaviour in the workplace.
3. Measures which will create respect for multiculturalism and diversity in the workplace.
4. Promoting an ethical workplace.
Organisational Structure
To control all the negativities such bullying, increase in the levels of stress in staff members and narrow minded mentality regarding peers Nick should follow a decentralised and highly formalised approach to design the organisational structure. Besides him being the CEO of the company he should have a board of directors which will include managers from different departments such as marketing, finance, human resources etc. Managers should be supervising the team leaders who will then be responsible for controlling the operatives in the organisation as well as maintain a clear communication of rules, regulations and policies down the line.
This will help senior management to focus on the core competencies of the organisation without wasting time and resources to solve quarrels among employees. Greater autonomy will empower the employees and make them feel more responsible. This organisational structure will also help in easy expansion of the company and will also motivate the employees to achieve the common goal of the organisation as described by Maduenyi (2015).
Workplace culture
The current culture of the company as could be perceived through the given case study is very stressful and demoralising. Workers do not have respect for their fellow workers values, beliefs or opinions. Bullying can be seen between younger and older, male and female etc. which is mentioned by Harlos (2018).
The leadership style of a leader influences the workplace culture to a great extent. It is important to have a leader who can monitor and supervise employee’s behaviour and performance as well as can motivate them to work as...
