Instructions Individual Assignment #1: Purpose: The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of HR and the connection to a real-life situation. For this assignment you will be assigned an HR topic by your professor. You will describe the Human Resources topic, connect your topic to a real-life example and identify two recommendations for the example you outline. It is critical to link in HR concepts throughout your paper.  The Assignment Your assignment should be a maximum of 1000 words in 12-point font using proper APA format. Your eText should be your only source. The following provides an overview of the structure of your paper: Section 1: HR Topic Overview (approx. 400 words) In this section you will use your own words to describe what you have learned from the HR topic assigned to you. It is critical to integrate HR concepts learned about your topic area and bold all HR concepts explored in this section.  You can reference your textbook using proper in text citations. In this section it is important to demonstrate your understanding about the HR topic assigned to you by reflecting on your thoughts, reactions and perspective on the topic area.   Section 2: Application with Real Life Example (approx. 350 words) In Section 2 you will describe a real-life experience that relates to your HR topic.  This can be your own experience in an organization, or the experience of a family member, friend or colleague. It is important to establish clear connections between your example and your HR topic by connecting in HR concepts into your real-life example.  It is required that you bold the HR concepts so that you can visibly see you are connecting enough concepts into you paper. Section 3: Recommendations (approx. 250 words) In this section identify two recommendations that apply to your example. The recommendations outline strategies you would recommend for the example you shared (this could include improvements, continuing good practices etc). The recommendations should have HR concepts linked in and clearly outlined the connection to our learning. The HR concepts you connect can be from anything learned to date in class and HR concepts must be bolded to demonstrate your learning. Resources: The resources for this assignment are e-text, own experiences and class learning materials (for class learning cite the week and the source). The use of other resources is not acceptable and your assignment will go through Turnitin to check for plagiarism. Introduction
A survey was conducted on 451 HR professionals to understand the important requirements of their role and it was found that business acumen lead the list followed by awareness of legal and legislative laws regarding employment and talent management at the second position. This aspect is crucial because it demands the HR professionals to extend training, guidance and development programs within legalised framework and also ensure that the behaviour and acts of managers and supervisors should be in sync within that (Page 21). The lawsuits filed by employees against the same are expensive and create negative impact at employer’s image and workplace environment.
This has to be understood in the light of the hierarchy of the employment legislation in Canada. As per charter of rights and Freedom all the people working in Canada are ensured protection under law and all the employers are expected to abide by it. At the Provincial/territorial level the employees will be treated with respect and equality. Both employees and employers have to follow the legislation and have to follow the rules fall under their respective workplace jurisdiction as there are variations in them. It means that if a company has offices in more than one jurisdiction it has to follow the norms separately for individual offices based on the same.
The understanding of laws like occupational health and safety acts, union relations, compensation and pension, contract law etc are helpful in creating work-life balance and better work environment (Page 21). Apart from this understanding of Tort Law is advantageous because complaints made by employees are affected by the regulations constructed under it. This helps in compliance with the law and aid in the interpretation of their meaning and importance. From employer perspective they are contractual obligations and they are bound to adhere to minimum possible guidelines so that they can align the maximum commitments levels of employees.
