Student name: Xinzhe Li (Eric) Student number: 133302 Date: 9/12/2019 Workplace: Cobiac & Chapman My internship workplace is an accounting firm, named Cobiac Chapman. This firm can provide professional auditing services for your super fund, trust account, associations, charities & companies. I have been work here one month, I learned a lot of accounting thing, even though my major is not accounting, my job is helping accountant to do some basic things, such as organize files, double check work, and put clients data into ifirm ( app for accounting firm ). I like the way they save clients information, which is paper folder, I like this traditional way to save clients information, I will bring this method in my life and future workplace. Furthermore, I did reception for one week, that was tired at that moment, I made appointment for new clients and transfer call to accountant and making client folders, I had lots of communication with accountant, they help me get to used this workplace. Overall, I have too much more knowledge need to learn, I will cherish this opportunity, and get more working experience in Australia. E-journal week 7 Student name: Xinzhe Li (Eric) Student number: 133302 Date: 7/01/2020 Workplace: Cobiac & Chapman After one – month duration of my hardworking, I have solid accounting knowledge which I have learned at university. The relevant professional auditing services provided by company including super fund, trust account, charities, companies, etc. Week 5 was busier than usual , I handled a complex case which is organize all trusts and proprietary data from 2018 to June 2019. Moreover, I have also acquired more regarding the practical cases, these experiences could help me a lot in future workplace. I still need make some progress on interpersonal skills, it contains everything from communication and listening skills to attitude and deportment. Usually called people skills. I believe reception could train interpersonal skills a lot, get to know more communication and active listening skills, flexibility. For instance, I did reception for one week, I need organize client appointments and transfer call to accountant and provide basic information of client, it was very helpful to practice interpersonal skills. The key to achieve the tasks is motivation. During the work time, I usually work for a set period and break down the task. On the other hand, when I got some very difficult job such as client data analysis, I start with the easiest part, and give myself a break time, usually I chat to colleagues, I ask accounting knowledge. Although my major is not pure accounting, but I have started enjoying this job already. E-journal week 9 Student name: Xinzhe Li (Eric) Student number: 133302 Date: 20/01/2020 Workplace: Cobiac & Chapman Recently we have been move to a new office where located at 273 Main North Road. I helped colleagues to package a lot of client folders, and their personal stuffs. We spent 2 days to package, and 3 days for moving, and we used 180 medium size moving box to package firm stuff. That was very exhausted at that moment to be honest. The new location is not only far away than previous office, but also larger work area, cheaper rent fee. I am looking forward to starting first day in new workplace. I did some research of critical thinking in week8. Critical thinking is the ability to think more clearly, making reasonable decision that are logical. It is very significant to master critical thinking. In my opinion, there are 5 critical thinking skills which is observation, problem solving, analysis, communication ,and open- minded. There are some differences between deductive and inductive reasoning. Normally deductive reasoning start with hypothesis and then see its true or false, also deductive reasoning dose not add to our store of knowledge, it merely rearranges it. On the other hand, inductive reasoning is when you start with true statement about specific things that make more logical conclusion. For instance, All teenagers like listening music, I am a teenager, therefore I like listening music (deductive), most teenagers like listing music, Lee is a teenager, therefore he probably like listing music (Inductive) . Description of Work
During the initial month of internship, I was exposed to the works of professional accountant. However, my major is not related to accounting, yet I found it informative as well as essential for future. I was allowed to help the accountants with their work by organising their files, arranging their data, performing some data entry work in the company's application. Further, I was also allowed to handle the reception for 1 week where I used to attend calls from clients regarding their queries, and I used to transfer the calls towards respective accountants.
Every passing week brought new learnings for me from this internship. In second months, I was allowed to handle private and complex cases related to proprietary data from 2018 to 2019. Interpersonal skills were always a lag with respect to professional skills, and in my sixth and seventh week, I worked more on my communication skills. New office brought new learning opportunities, and I acquired a great knowledge regarding critical thinking, and its professional application in accounting world.
