How did psychologists Gordon Allport, Raymond Cattell, and Hans Eysenck identify traits?

● Allport resisted the idea of a “personality law” that would apply to everyone, believing that individual personalities are unique. However, he identified several kinds of traits, which paved the way for other trait theory researchers.

● Cattell used factor analysis to compute the relationships among traits until he came up with 16 core personality dimensions, or factors.

● Eysenck used factor analysis to determine dimensions of personality, including the extraversion– introversion dimension and the emotional stability–instability dimension.
