Summary
The increasing numbers of suicide cases in the U.S. can be observed over the years. The main reasons for the increasing suicide cases are mental problems, substance abuse di
sorders, cultural factors and so on. Through the process of critical analysis of secondary data, it has been found out that increase in suicide rate is closely linked with mental problems and substance abuse such as alcohol and drug abuse and so on. Through the research it has been observed that pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy can prove to be effective in reducing suicide rates. Additionally, telemedicine and telehealth network can also be helpful. It is recommended that the government better monitor the suicide rates as well as the tendencies for long-term studies of health and mental health behaviors and interventions.
Background
The number of suicide cases in the US is continually on a rise due to a number of reasons which are inclusive of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. However, the problem of the rising rates of suicide cases are not acknowledged adeptly by the government as there is a lack of internationally accepted case definition as well as uniform ascertainment methods. In addition to that, the changing data in regard to mental problems and other associated social factors and their impact on the overall changes in the suicide rates are also not addressed in clear terms. I am responsible for performing the role of an assessor who will perform secondary research and draw data and statistics in order to bring about solution to the problem of increasing suicide rates in the U.S.
The report aims to reduce the suicide rates from the high reported numbers of 30,000, in the U.S. with the help of thorough research within a span of six months. The problem of high rate of suicide cases primarily stem from biological, psychological and cultural factors such as serious mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, childhood abuse, unemployment and loss of economic security, loss of a loved one and cultural issues such as prejudice, discrimination.
