Aboriginal people’s Healthcare experience in Australia
Introduction
The cultural safety and indigenous cultural respect of the aboriginals in Australia by the white nurses and the midwives are increasing gradually. Previously, the aboriginals were treated like untouchables and were left
to die without proper care and treatment. As per a report published in 2011 better known as Native Title Report 2011, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities’ and the organization led by the commissioner of social justice Mick Gooda stated that they are working together to ensure that the guidelines and the principles as per the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples are adhered to and development and governance framework related to the cultural safety are being established. These courses are aimed at providing them with sufficient guidelines and skills to treat the aboriginal patients with care, respect and equally, free from any racial discrimination which will enhance the life expectancy of the aboriginal patients. For this course the undergraduate nurses were chosen. There was a survey conducted in which 15 staffs completed the entire survey and 8 staffs appeared for an interview process. The result was astonishing where it was discovered that though there was prevalence of cultural safety within the nurses but they lack the comprehensive knowledge,...
