Research paper on Pantheon

HUMANITIES 1302 MINI-RESEARCH PAPER For this assignment you are to research a place of worship for any religion in any of the styles that we discuss in this class OR for any religion that was in existence or begun before the year 1400. The place I choose for this essay is Pantheon in Rome, Italy. You must turn in a 750 word (minimum) paper with MLA formatting and all sources properly cited. The building must have been built by 1400 or at least be begun by 1400. The Your first paragraph should explain why you chose this particular structure. Your second paragraph should describe the exterior in detail, especially any decoration. Your third paragraph should describe the floor plan—the general shape of it, aisles, altar, etc. Your fourth paragraph should describe the interior in detail, especially any decoration. Your fifth paragraph should be the conclusion. In this paragraph explain anything that you would change in the building to make it more appropriate or innovative (but remember, no electricity!) for the time period. You should use a minimum of four sources with at least three being internet sources or databases. I suggest that you use some of the databases available on the Brookhaven College library web site. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source. Your topic needs to be approved by your instructor ahead of time. The paper must also be submitted to the Safe Assign link in the unit. Once you have done that, email it to your instructor.

Pantheon: An Overview
Introduction
When friends come to Rome in early summer to visit me, I like to take them
to the Pantheon during thunderstorms and stand them beneath the opening of the feathery, perfectly proportioned dome as rain falls through the open roof against the marble floor and lightning scissors through the wild and roiled skies. The emperor Hadrian rebuilt the temple to honor gods no longer worshiped, but you can feel the brute passion in that ardor in the Pantheon's grand and harmonious shape. I think gods have rarely been worshiped so well.
- Pat Conroy
Pantheon, literally meaning of or to all gods, is one of the most famous, iconic structures in Rome, Italy. It is also the most important of all Roman temples that has been exceptionally well preserved amongst the ancient Roman structures. From the quotation above, it is easily discernible that the importance of the Pantheon in the modern world is not just limited to it being a classical architectural marvel; it is also a place of worship that has evolved with time, becoming a church in the seventh century. Therefore, my choice of the Pantheon lies in the fact that, unlike many similar classical structures, this grand temple has lived up to the true meaning of its name, becoming a place of worship for a different God but still hosting worshippers seeking benevolence. The structure, thus, is not only classical but a classic too in the truest sense for being able to withstand the ravages of time. The following sections briefly discuss some of its most prominent architectural and aesthetic features.
