Heading 1 Page 1 of 3 This assessment is to be completed in groups (of up to 3 members). Zero Waste Group Presentation (20%)- individually marked Zero Waste Group Report (40%)- group marked Word limit of the Group report- Maximum 4,000 words (excluding cover page and references) Assessments 2 and 3 will be completed in a Group of 3. The group needs to select a local council, community, business, industry or specific waste stream (e.g. plastics, disposable cups, electronic waste, etc.) for the zero waste challenge. The main purposes of the zero waste challenge are to critically analyse the existing waste management practices in a particular sector and propose zero waste solutions. Each group is required to present their proposed zero waste solutions. The presentation will be marked individually. Online students can complete Assessments 2 and 3 individually if the time zone differs significantly amongst the group members. Assessment structure and focus: This assessment will allow students to use logical and rational processes to interpret and understand the existing waste management system's in their selected topic area (e.g. local government, specific waste stream, industry). The assessment needs to be a real-world problem, and thus, the group should provide the most appropriate solutions to the problem. The group will act as a zero waste consultant and offer zero waste solutions to the respective selected case study. The group needs to address but not limited to the following key criteria: 1. The critical issues of current waste management practices that impact both the natural and the built environment; 2. The critical socio-economic and environmental sustainability principles that need to be considered for the zero waste solutions; ASSESSMENT 2 and 3 Zero Waste Case Study (60%) Due –Week 13 (29 May 2022, Sunday at 11:59pm) Page 2 of 3 3. Innovative ‘circular economy’ concept and business (operational) solutions for possible improvement of the existing situation; 4. Cost-benefit analysis of the existing and proposed solutions; and 5. Business operational strategy/technique of the innovative design/policy solution with a realistic implementation plan, considering the relevant stakeholders. Presentation (20%) Your group is required to produce a PowerPoint presentation and present your proposed zero waste solutions. Each group member must make a significant contribution to the presentation and will be marked individually for their contribution. The Bentley Internal Students will be presenting their group work in Week 13 during the scheduled seminar session. The Bentley online students' group presentation should be in a recorded/live session in Week 13 upon consultation with the tutor. The group presentation should be no more than 15 minutes (maximum). The PowerPoint slides need to be submitted on Blackboard (one submission for each group). It is highly encouraged to present your group assessment in a one-page infographic ‘poster presentation’ for easy communication to a wider audience. The case study presentation will be marked individually. Group Report (40%): The written report should be within 4000 words (excluding cover page and references). Only one group report needs to be submitted via Turnitin submission portal. The group report will be graded as a group.
