I am using R to do survival analysis of Radical Right-Wing parties in 12 countries across northern Europe. I will attach the dataset and codebook with this inquiry. I will also attach the paper I am working on which outlines what I am hoping to accomplish.

I basically need three things:

1. A short explanation of the methods used for the analysis – Beginning of section 2 of my paper.

2. The R code of the analysis with directions on what each step was designed to do.

3. A short discussion of the results – section 3 of my paper.

I have four hypotheses I am hoping to answer:

·
Density Hypothesis-As the number of RRW parties increases the number of votes for RRW parties will also increase.

·
Type of Founding Hypothesis- Parties that started from scratch will have a shorter lifespan than parties that were a result of a split.

·
Representation Hypothesis- Parties that gain at least one seat in Parliament will survive longer than those who do not reach Parliament.

·
Governance Hypothesis- Parties that join a government coalition will survive longer than those who never become coalition partners.

Here are the main tasks I need to accomplish with R.

1. A non-parametric life table and Kaplan-Meier estimate for all the parties.

2. The same thing with Western and Eastern Countries done separately.

3. Determine the density of how many parties entered or exited each year.

4. Lifespans of all parties.

5. How long does it take parties to reach Parliament or join a coalition?

6. Lifespans of parties that reach Parliament or join a coalition.

7. Use Cox model test what impact these covariates have on the outcome;

a. economic indicators- unemployment, GDP, inflation

b. number of parties at elections

c. number of votes received

d. type of founding

This is an introductory survival analysis course on R and my instructor said to keep it simple and only do basic analysis, so I don’t need advanced coding solutions. Just the basic, life table, Kaplin-Meier and Cox models should be fine.

Thanks,

Rod

PS- I may not be requesting this right or requesting it in the exact way I should any advice on this would be appreciated if you see something that should be done differently.
