Assessment Task 2
Review of the existing work, health and safety policies and procedures
The existing health and safety policies of the Grow Management Consultant have many drawbacks. The work, health and safety policy of the consultant is to identify the hazards and controlling the risks. Grow Management Consultants tries to provide safe working environment by identifying the elements that can cause harm to their employees and then inform their engineering departments to fix the hazards to provide a safe working environment. However,
they lack in identifying the root cause of the hazards. Grow Management Consultants lacks in analysing risks properly. Therefore, they sometimes cannot control the risks associated with safety and health of the employees properly. They have got work, health and safety policies for their employees. Employees are provided with health insurance and medical benefits under Workers compensation act 1951. Workers compensation act 1951 states that employees should be given a compensation of money for personal injury or occupational diseases in the period of their employment. Employees are compensated a specific amount of money if they injured in some accident in their working place. Apart from this employees are provided with medical benefits. For instance, if employees get any severe disease then the company will compensate the total medical expenses of the hospital for the employees. However, there are no specific work, health and safety policy for the employees, who work from home. Employees, who work from home, are not provided with health insurances and medical benefits. Therefore, they do not get any money if they have any health issues and company will not provide them the facility of compensating their medical bills instead of them.
Updating of the existing work, health and safety policies and procedures
The work, health and safety policies and procedures of Grow Management Consultants should have to be updated. Company have to fix the drawbacks in their safety procedures. Therefore, company should be alert for identifying hazards and they should identify the root cause of the hazards. If employees see something that can be risky then they should immediately inform the authorities. For instance, noisy machineries can damage permanent hearing. Therefore, if employees see that machineries are producing too much noise then they should immediately inform their authorities. The authorities will then inform the engineering department to fix it. New safety procedures must be incorporated with risk analysis and risk control. Risk analysis is the method to find out and count those factors, which can be risky for the health and safety of employees within the company. This method is also helpful for defining those factors, by obtaining which the risks can be reduced for the organisation. There are two types of risk analysis method- Qualitative and Quantitative risk analysis methods. Qualitative risk analysis method predefines the feasibility and effects of risks on the safety of employees. Quantitative risk analysis method measures the amount of risks associated with the safety of employees. Therefore, the company should check if there is something that can be risky for safety constantly and fix it. Risk control is the method to alleviate the predefined risks that can be aroused to impact on the safety within the organisation. Risk control is the implementation of plans to abate risks aroused to harm the safety. The most efficient procedure to control risk is the complete elimination of the risks impacting the health and safety of employees within the organisation. For instance, if the organisation find out about the risks then they should completely eliminate it. However, complete elimination of risks is not possible always. Therefore, other procedures of risk control are followed. Instead of the complete removal of the risks the probability of the risks is reduced by obtaining precautions. For instance, the elements that will be risky for organisational safety will be reduced. Apart from this the elements, which will abate organisational safety are kept segregated to prevent the risks of the project. There is no specific health and safety policies for the employees, who work from home based sites in Grow Management Consultants. Work, health and safety policies for the employees, who work from home based sites, should be established and implemented. The organisation has to know the requirement and needs of these employees to establish safety policies for them. The safety policy must ensure that the home based work site should be in a safe area. Therefore, employees should not face any hazard in working and can work in a safe environment. Secondly, company’s safety policy should ensure that the system, on which employees are working, is safe and the system does not have any impact on the health of the employees. For instance, employees are provided with laptops by the company. Grow Management Consultants should ensure that the laptop, on which the employees are working, is in a safe condition and there is no chance of any explosion of the laptop. Therefore, the work, health and safety of the employees are ensured. Employees should be given the flexible working hours to meet the deadlines to ensure their good health. Employees, who telecommute, are having insomnia and stress. Excessive work load and a limited period to complete their work put a massive pressure on them. The overpressure of work creates stress among the employees as they have to choose between their personal life and work life. They have to work more compromising their personal life, which lead them having stress. Employees have to work late at night to complete their work in the...
