Part one: Venue Design Analysis
Venue
Jet Bar café is located in 455 George Street Queens Victoria Building. The building is almost a century old and exudes a typical ancient architecture. The locatio
n is good and attracts good number of customers as the historical building attracts a good number of customers. The café was established in the year 1998 with the idea of serving English breakfast to its customers. The café has undergone major makeover in July 2005 as the restaurant owners curated new set of menus and changed their furniture in order to reflect a more modern and astheically pleasing café setup.
The venue is centrally air-conditioned, is kept neat and tidy and the furniture are simple yet elegant.
The venue is rectangular in shape and when a customer enters, he is greeted with a small reception cum bar area that is followed by a dining area and the cash counter is located at the back of the restaurant where there is coffee vending machines are located as well.
There are two separate dining areas, though the areas are not bifurcated using any physical means, there is just more than average spacing between the tables that make the implicit jurisdiction of the dining areas. As of now, the dining capacity of the restaurant stands at 95, implying that it can well accommodate good number of customers.
The fire exit is located at the back of the restaurant close to the cash counter and other than the narrow entrance, there is just one small side station situated at the middle of two separate dining areas and provides a small passage for customers to walk-in and out.
· Application of proper design principles: In order for a venue to be considered properly designed, it is imperative that the venue is not crowded or congested, has good lighting and there are proper entrance and exit. It seems that the Jet Bar café does moderate in these parameters as the entrance is relatively small than expected and the fire exit is located at the back of the venue, that is in case of emergency, all the customers will have to rush to the back door. The surprising thing is that fire exit is placed very close to the kitchen, in case of accidental mishap in the kitchen; the fire might block the fire exit.
